Proofreader, Editor, and Writer

My grandfather designed and built houses. My father was a chemical engineer and a woodworker who constructed furniture during the weekend. I like to think that the building impulse is in my genes; my raw material is not wood and nails but rather words. My passion for language and story precipitated my choices in my studies and in my career. As an English teacher, I love teaching students who are preparing for college and careers. I have also worked with student writers who have gained national recognition for their fiction and poetry. I have helped people expand their writing to elaborate on details and I have helped writers reduce their writing to fit a particular word count. My MA in Writing Studies allowed me to focus on my passion: fiction and poetry. While in the program, I also worked with journalism, editing, and nonfiction of all sorts. I have written 3 books as well. My skills include: • Close reading for grammar, spelling, organization, syntax, etc. • Correcting issues with wording, voice, and sentence structure. • Providing feedback on content. • Providing editorial support for application essays. • Providing editorial support for essays and other works of nonfiction. • Assisting poets and fiction writers with development of their work. • Tailoring writing to a specific audience. • Tutoring individuals who want to improve their writing.
