Stephane Kasriel

Chief Executive Officer

As CEO of Upwork and co-chair of the World Economic Forum’s Council on the Future of Education and Work, Stephane is driving the company’s vision of connecting businesses with great talent to work without limits. He is an expert on working with professionals around the world, having also managed the company’s global tech team of 300+ product managers, designers and engineers. Stephane has 16 years of leadership experience. Previously, he was Global Head of PayPal Consumer Products, Global Head of PayPal Mobile Business Development and Managing Director of PayPal France, held leadership roles at pioneering companies including Fireclick, Work4, and Zong, and was a founder of Fireclick and iFeelGoods.

The WEF, Harvard Business Review, Fortune and Bloomberg View have featured him on topics including the future of work, the impacts of AI and how to strengthen our global economy. Recent talks include WEF Davos, Lisbon Web Summit and lectures at Harvard Business School and University of California, Berkeley.

Stephane holds an MBA from INSEAD, Master’s from Stanford in Computer Science and a BS from Ecole Polytechnique in France.

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Brian oversees Upwork’s finance team, including analytics, planning, and accounting. He has more than 25 years of experience leading finance organizations during periods of high growth and previously held finance leadership roles at Marketo and SuccessFactors (acquired by SAP). He is also on the Board of Directors of Marin Software, Inc. and serves as their audit committee chair.

Brian holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and an MBA with a finance concentration from St. Mary’s College of California.

Chief business affairs and legal officer

Brian oversees Upwork`s legal, regulatory and government affairs functions globally and engages stakeholders to promote Upwork’s reputation through corporate affairs initiatives. Brian has more than 15 years of legal experience focused on the intersection of the Internet and technology. Prior to joining us, Brian served in a global leadership role at eBay Inc. for more than a decade, where he began as eBay`s first corporate attorney and most recently served as its Deputy General Counsel. Before joining eBay, Brian served as Vice President, Legal with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. and as a corporate attorney at Latham & Watkins.

In 2017, Brian was named one of the world’s Top 20 General Counsels by The Financial Times. Brian holds a law degree from Stanford Law School, where he was an Associate Editor of the Stanford Law Review, and a bachelor’s degree in Economics, with honors and distinction, from Stanford University.

Stratis Karamanlakis

CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER

Stratis, one of the company`s founders, leads Upwork`s technology team. Before co-founding oDesk, Stratis served as Technical Director at Postscriptum Communication Informatics, directing development of the multimedia content management system that was deployed on the Athens 2004 Olympics Youth website. He has also worked at L-Cube Information Systems, where he supervised R&D in IT projects for the European Union.

Stratis holds a diploma in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece.

Rich Pearson

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT,
MARKETING

Rich is head of marketing at Upwork, where he leads the marketing, creative and customer success teams. He oversees customer growth and acquisition, communications, product marketing, demand generation, and customer success. Rich offers unique knowledge on job market trends and what skills are most in-demand by today’s businesses. Prior to joining Upwork, he led marketing and business development at Posterous through its acquisition by Twitter, and previously held senior marketing positions at Yahoo!, Attributor, Homestead, Segasoft, and Del Monte Foods. Rich has contributed his point of view on NPR, CNBC, CNET, Entrepreneur, Forbes, Chief Marketer and CMO.com.

Rich holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business and a BS in Marketing and Finance from UC Berkeley.

ENGINEERING

Han leads the engineering team at Upwork, where he oversees the company`s online platform as well as a distributed technical team of more than 300 people who power it. He is also a member of the Forbes Technology Council, where he shares expert advice on building and managing distributed engineering teams. Prior to joining Upwork, Han built and led engineering teams at eBay and Netflix, focusing on mobile and business incubation. He began his career in the enterprise start-up space and was co-founder of buddystumbler.com.

Han holds both a B.S. and M.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California at Berkeley and also has five patents that span the gamut from financial close automation to contextual e-commerce.

Hayden Brown

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT,
PRODUCT AND DESIGN

Hayden leads Upwork`s product and design teams and oversees the company’s products across desktop, web and mobile. She is passionate about the enduring positive impact of Upwork`s marketplace for matching talent with jobs across traditional economic and geographic boundaries. Prior to joining Upwork, she was the head of corporate development at LivePerson and previously held several strategy and M&A roles at Microsoft. She started her career in the strategy group at McKinsey & Company.

Hayden holds an A.B. in Politics from Princeton University.

Elizabeth Tse

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT,
OPERATIONS

Elizabeth is responsible for Trust & Safety, Customer Success, Global Payments, and Customer Support at Upwork. Prior to joining us, Elizabeth was the Chief Operating Officer for Samasource, a non-profit that provides online work to women and youth in Africa and South Asia. Previously Elizabeth was VP of Global Billing, Payments and Collections at eBay and held senior positions at Zuora and Providian Financial (now JP Morgan Chase).

Elizabeth holds an MBA from Cornell University and a BA in Psychology from Yale University.

Zoë Harte

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT,
HUMAN RESOURCES AND TALENT INNOVATION

Zoë leads our talent strategy at Upwork. As such, she has guided the growth of the company’s team by more than 50 percent since its merger in spring of 2014. She implements innovative management approaches and focuses on building a mission-driven culture for Upwork’s team of employees and global network of freelancers. Her team includes HR business partnerships, learning and development, workplace management, recruitment, compliance and onboarding, talent innovation and HR operations. Prior to joining Upwork, Zoë was Director of Global Initiatives and Senior HR Business Partner at Yahoo!, Director of HRBPs and Director of Recruitment at Rovi, and also led International Customer Care for Yahoo! Zoë holds an MA in Theology from University of Exeter and a B.A. in Religion and Women’s Studies from Earlham College.

Eric leads the sales team at Upwork, where he oversees the company`s global sales operations, including enterprise sales, sales engineering, channel development and client success. Prior to joining Upwork, he was at CareerBuilder for 15 years, where he most recently led the Vertical Sales Group and was responsible for generating over $200 million in global revenue.

Eric holds an MBA from Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business.
