Adriana: I only apply to things that I know I want to work on, and I know I can bring value to them. Now I'm really focusing only on illustration.

Kaitlyn: I think it was being incredibly clear and direct with who my customer was. So when I wanted to do a business plan, I got really, really clear on who that particular person was gonna be, where they were in their business journey, what it is they needed from me, what I could execute for them, and I changed my profile to read that. And so and then I got a client the next day.

Ed: Be innovative in your searching. My favorite is voice talent and for what I do. Well, then I'll put in voice over, all one word, then I'll separate the two. So I play around with it constantly.

Armando: I really like to use the RSS feed ability in Upwork. So this way, you can get notifications in your phone and you can use your custom filters. And it's way much easier to do this than just pressing refresh.

Bryan: Make sure to go and find potential jobs and apply to them that are relevant to you and only ones that are relevant to you, that influences the search algorithm, by indicating that you're interested in these types of jobs.

This is How to Search and Vet Jobs

Adriana: I'm looking for clients who have a history on Upwork, who have a good rating. I also check their ratings and what other freelancers tell about the, you know, the client, because that means I can communicate with him.

Bryan: Does it seem like there's somebody that is gonna be professional and give you, you know, good clear responses or does it seem like someone who you're gonna have some troubles or it's gonna feel like pulling teeth sometimes to just get the information or answers that you need. These are kind of big indicators of maybe how the working relationship is gonna go, further down the line.

Adriana: I also check the reviews from other freelancers. Even if the reviews are okay and he says very good job, very well done, and he gives 4 stars instead of 5, it's a bit of a red flag.

This is How to Shine in a Sea of Talented People

Bryan: I do believe that the (Job Success Score) JSS score has a huge impact on your ability to attract new clients.

Adriana: I think this is the main thing on freelance platforms. I really try to be, you know, there for my clients and to offer them the moon, if possible.

Kaitlyn: It's nice to know that you've got, like, a 100% success rate, but it does go up and down, and I think it will go up and down as you start your journey because you're figuring it all out.

This is How to Create Momentum That Keeps Building and Building

Kaitlyn: It does take some time to go from zero to something, but it's in those moments from zero to something where you have to show up every day and do something towards achieving it that's gonna make the biggest shifts quickly.

Ed: I think sticking with anything, if you really want to do it, you have to hang in there because you're always gonna have doors slammed. Open the door again. Open, open, open it. Keep it going. Keep the door open.
