Client Service Engineer

Responsible for supporting existing client’s hardware issues, implementing both upgrade and new system hardware installation, in  remote environment.  Works closely with other departments to install contracted hardware, third-party software; instrument interfaces; and troubleshoots system problems, maintain and provides uninterrupted system performance .

• Primary server hardware and operating system platform:
o IBM POWER systems
o Intel based systems
o AIX Operating system
o Linux Operating system:
 Red Hat Enterprise Linux
 Oracle Linux
• Knowledge in the following area:
o Storage
 Local storage, configure JBOD or RAID Array
 Exposure to SAN configuration and technology associated with SAN technology.
o Understanding of network concept – TCPIP, DNS, DHCP, OSI, File transfer.
o Desktop OS – Windows and Linux.
o Serial communication
o Understanding of clinical laboratory operations
o Printing
o Faxing
• Monitors System Problem Notification Dashboard for potential system issues:
o Create tasks, or update existing tasks to track reported problem.
o Open ticket with hardware vendor to address problem.
o Follow up with task until completion.
• Performs duties of considerable complexity in support of computing systems
• Server component installation at client site, or remote assistance.
o Memory
o Hard drives, disk expansion units
• Supports both internal and external customers.
• Adheres to and enforces SCC Corporate Operating Procedures and Departmental Operating Procedures.  
• Supports good manufacturing practices as defined by SCC.
• Be able to identify and resolve priority issues, able to identify the source of the problem, and be responsive to the client’s needs to have problems resolved in a timely manner.  
• Assist in new equipment evaluation, and prepare documentation learned during the evaluation period.
• At the request from FSE level 2 or 3, assist in configuration and maintenance of in-house servers.
• Be proficient in print queue setup, configuration, and troubleshoot printing issues.
• Be proficient in configure serial terminal server configuration:
o For instrument communication
o Modem connection
o Printer connection
o Recovery process for terminal servers
• Shadow FSE Level 2 and 3 for the following activities:
o Failover exercise/event
o OS migration/update/patching
o Server relocation
o IP change – server, terminal server, printer devices.
o Assist presenter in preparing technical call summary.
• Follow and adhere to departmental procedure and work instruction.
• Work with shipping department in RMA process.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
