I'm a former English teacher, past project manager, watercolorist, and hoping to gain more of the graphic design work that I love so much. I am well organized, punctual, goal oriented, self-directed, and a good communicator. I work very well independently, but I can also collaborate well with a team. I learned to use Adobe PhotoShop and Illustrator when it was still Aldus SuperPaint and I was 10 years old. That was a very long time ago. We had one of the early Macs that required 1 floppy for the application and a 2nd floppy for storage. I've continued using these programs throughout my education and have freelanced off and on through college and during spells between jobs. I'm self taught at web design, which I've also done freelance. I taught graphic design at university briefly before I signed up with another university department that was more in line with my educational training (instructional design/multimedia). But throughout my 19 years with that department, I was the go to for graphic design needs in the department. Much of it instructional. Almost all informational. When you see my portfolio you will see that much in there is not much marketing, but more informational. No doubt, given the opportunity I would be pleased to be asked for more diversity. Those 19 years with the Department of Family Medicine gave me the challenge of designing posters that resident physicians would take to conferences and fulfill a requirement for graduation. The content is often dry, often overwhelming with information, but I tried my best to make the poster interesting to look at and read, keeping the information chunked to manageable sizes. In most cases, I had freedom to build them as I wanted as long as I adhered to the format required. Some other items in my portfolio I may have done differently if I had the permission to go with my gut. Even so, they represent an understanding of print productions and skill with Adobe Creative Suite.
