Copyeditor, Proofreader & Copywriter.

I am an adept copy editor and proofreader with a keen eye for detail that I have honed over years of experience editing copy for a variety of texts, audiences, and mediums. Though my copyediting background is extensive and diverse, it can most succinctly be described under three areas of expertise: academic writing, literary texts, and commercial copy for digital sales and marketing. My broad knowledgebase for editing academic writing was developed during my own academic pursuits in the period of 2015-2022. In this time, I gained two first-class honours degrees that specifically related to and encompassed the principles of copyediting – a BA in English, History and Creative Writing, and an MA in Publishing and Literature, both from the National University of Ireland, Galway. These programs instilled in me a passion for the discipline of academic writing and an advanced command over various referencing styles, including MLA, Harvard, APA etc. During my time at NUI Galway, I interned in the University’s Academic Writing Centre from 2017-2019, where I assessed fellow students’ work and edited their essays, dissertations, and theses. The rigid demands of academic-style writing developed my skills for helping individuals create concise and cogent copy that met the stringent expectations of individual objectives across multiple disciplines and areas of expertise. During my Masters program I received expert training in the discipline of copyediting, mastering traditional techniques such as BSI marking and more freelancer-friendly methods such as utilising Microsoft Word’s Track Changes feature. I am competent in both British and US English copyediting standards and guidelines. In terms of editing literary works, I have assisted authors across a diverse range of mediums and genres to develop their work for submission to publishing houses and literary magazines. As a freelance copyeditor, I have worked on texts extending from short stories and poetry collections to nonfiction essays and novel manuscripts. In 2020/2021 I had the opportunity to work as an Editor for the ROPES Literary Journal based in Galway, Ireland. My duties included: commissioning writers, selecting the short-list of works for publication in the journal, and editing submissions for form, style, and clarity. While working with ROPES, I also developed copy for the magazine’s varied sales and marketing campaigns across its social media platforms and website. As well as developing copy for sales and marketing campaigns at the ROPES Literary Journal, I have recently assisted several other businesses in streamlining and editing the text and content available on their websites for SEO and accessibility purposes. For example, in 2022 I edited and proofread a series of online health and safety courses for the Food Safety Authority of Ireland. Though this is a relatively new area of copyediting for me, my prior skills and acute attention to detail have led to continued success in the projects that I have worked on thus far. Therefore, I am keen to continue honing my editing skills for digital sales and marketing by working with other individuals and businesses to ensure that the content on their online platforms is professional, attainable, and lacking in unseemly errors. In summary, I am a hardworking, diligent, and reliable copyeditor with a passion for all things related to the written word and I look forward to assisting you with all of your copyediting needs.
