Lead Engineer on a team that grew from 2 members to a team of 12 to meet the growing demand and utility of our Data Warehouse as a Service over a 5-year span. • Built highly optimized ETL pipelines on datasets 1TB-10TB+ in size which simplified complex data structures for reporting. • Delivered the company wide used, “single source of truth” transformed denormalized datasets to model the core Linehaul transportation business activity. • Keen eye on reducing hardware costs by implementing query moderation mechanisms that optimize DB performance; such as creative Work Load Management configurations and job kill scripts. • Delivered a user facing query optimization tool, which reads the query plan with code and identifies the “longest running segment” to point users to the specific lines of SQL code needing optimization; by optimizing queries the DB load and hardware capacity needs are reduced. • Implemented “Star Schema” design for the DW and wrote technical documentation. • Administered permissions framework compliant with security best practices and data privacy regulations. Financial Analyst, Amazon 2013-2014 Team: Transportation Controllership Operational based finance role, drove savings opportunities with business owners including a 5.5MM annual savings project which identified a gap in the carrier invoicing contracts. Fought the month end accrual battles with Accounting and owned the month end expense estimate for Linehaul Transportation, which accounts for $90MM/month expense item on the Amazon P&L. • Performed all the general reporting and analysis work such as data modeling in Excel and visualizations in Tableau • Learned the Amazon Transportation business data from the Analyst side which provided the foundational knowledge to later build what the Analyst needs as a Data Engineer.
