Types of Polymorphism Polymorphism is rather common for the crystallisation of one and the same material into various other structural arrangements of the molecules. It can hence be categorised in to two different types with respect to their stability and thus based on varying pressure and temperature range. (i) Monotropic System In such a system, often times stability is observed in just one of the polymorphs which has lower free energy content and solubility at all pressures and temperature below its melting point whereas every other polymorph is left unstable. These types of polymorphs are known as "MONOTROPES".
