The Office for National Statistics – software development project
Providing agile business analysis services for a £mm Life Events software development product.
An agile project (Kanban).
A software development project was in a period of change. I was brought in to lead the business analysis so that the £mm benefits could be ensured.
I reviewed and wrote user stories and created acceptance criteria using BDD scenarios. I identified the essential activities needed to meet the business objectives. I reviewed and created process flows (swim lanes). I mentored a junior BA on the same project.
As a result, the technical delivery of the user stories became more efficient. The project team had an overall picture of how the features hang together.
After I had left the ONS for a short period, I was invited back to shape the migration and cutover approach. Through data analysis (using Toad and SQL), exploratory testing and analysing the business needs, I identified gaps where additional software development was needed, or where the migration script needed to be enhanced.
The migration from the old mainframe was successful and the product is now live. The migration and cutover approach minimised the disruption to the business. Users are able to continue to process migrated data in the new system and maintain data integrity. £mm pa benefits were achieved.
DST Bluedoor – wealth management product
An agile project (Scrum).
I was brought in to shape the workflow requirements for a £mm wealth management product. Workflow enables teams to efficiently work together by allowing them to process individual tasks and then passing the workflow case onto the next team. I analysed and validated the customer requirements and created a backlog in Jira using BDD as the acceptance criteria. I was also responsible as the scrum master. I created wire frames to enable the customer to understand how the product will work and to aid communication with the developers. I built up a good working relationship with the customer. The features built were of a high quality and accepted by the customer at the end of sprint Show and Tells.
National Theatre
The National Theatre needed to redevelop its website as it was costly to support. I was contracted as an Agile BA to deliver a new website via an Agile Scrum project, working with UX, designers and suppliers.
Particular focus was on ensuring the user journey is as intuitive as possible. I managed the usability testing of the website prototype with members of the public. The results fed back into the UX and design. I managed an agency to carry out accessibility testing.
I analysed the questions that customers were asking the Box Office and designed the concept of a Help Centre. The aim was to reduce calls to the Box Office. I specified Contact Us forms so that high volume customer transactions could be managed more efficiently e.g. ticket exchanges.
I managed the backlog and I defined user stories before the start of each sprint using epics, BDD scenarios and wireframes. The BDD scenarios formed the basis of the functional specification and acceptance criteria. As each feature was developed, I ensured it was thoroughly tested before it was signed off.
