I have a way with words. I am freelance Writer and Editor with a background in fiction, satire and the media. I employ a concise and accurate writing style when working at international sporting events, where my role is to provide fast and accurate copy to the world's media. The same style is apparent in the written content I have provided for school websites, primarily in the form of profiles of prominent former students. I unleash my creative flair and unbridled verbosity while lampooning various people and peculiarities as a satirist and author of a number of books for young children. I work efficiently to tight deadlines, having worked as a reporter for a local newspaper and at events such as the Olympic Games, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, where I wrote reports, researched historical and statistical information and conducted interviews. My love of sport, writing and satire merged in the creation of The Frownlow Medal, a satirical annual award which draws attention to the status of Australian based footballers as role models, and is visible on various social media platforms. I also enjoy my role as resident satirist for The Beast magazine in Sydney, Australia. A number of my satirical articles were so convincing that they prompted phone calls to local councils from irate residents, and journalists from Sydney's major newspapers, investigating the fictitious initiatives set to be introduced. I love sport and am also interested in environmental sustainability, the outdoors, education, sociology and travel. My international sojourns have taken me to every continent except Antarctica and various accounts of these adventures have appeared in publication. My travel articles lean more towards narratives of interesting and bizarre experiences (like working - inadvertently - for a Mexican drug dealer). My background as a Teacher of English Literature and English as a Second Language (ESL) has given me a strong command of the English language and an ability to write and edit very accurately and very quickly. I have used these skills to copy edit a number of business websites for people who speak English as a second language, particularly speakers of Spanish and Portuguese. My experience as a Teacher in various states of Australia, as well as in Latin America and Asia, provided genuine insight into issues surrounding education, adolescence and literacy as well as an exposure to and appreciation of diverse cultures.
