Rising Talent
Sr. Software Engineer: Ruby, JavaScript, HTML, Bash, Linux, devops

I'm a senior software engineer with 20+ years of experience.
My Github account: 0rion3 (starts with "zero", not the letter O).
My StackOverflow / StackExchange account: /users/34134/orion3
Had been working w/ Ruby On Rails since v2 came out (circa 2008), built multiple critical fintech products with it – both as a lead software engineer and, later, as a CTO at multiple companies. I'm good at both bootstrapping projects of various complexity on my own as well as working with teams of developers and/or hiring & building teams from scratch.
List of skills
=========
• Ruby & Ruby On Rails
• JavaScript (wrote my own fronted framework, see below)
• HTML, CSS, Haml, SCSS (can write advanced modern html/css by hand, no frameworks)
• Linux & FreeBSD administration
• Hypervisors (virtualization): KVM/QEMU, bhyve
• Container engines: Docker, FreeBSD Jails
• Deep knowledge of Bash
• Good understanding of cyber security, penetration testing and DDoS protection
List of tools I use on a regular basis
===========================
on the Desktop/Server: Vim, Git, PGP, rsync, SQLite, Docker, ffmpeg, Perl, Zsh, tilix, (a terminal emulator), Wireguard (manual setup)
online tools: Github, Gitlab, Gitea, Protonmail, Slack, Jira & BetterWorldBooks to buy printed books!
When writing code, I value simplicity over complex frameworks and paradigms. Having worked with AND authored my own frameworks and libraries, I know very well the price they put on teams in terms of mental workloads, availability of workforce and the prospects of each team member actually knowing how to program vs knowing a particular framework. Frameworks are no doubt useful – in moderation.
Contacting me
===========
use the website messaging system or find my email on my website, which is listed under the "projects" category below - because a lot of my opensource projects are there!
Even though I'm currently located in Vancouver, BC – please note that time-zones are not a problem for me – I can be online when required.
You may also schedule a voice/video call with me here on the platform. I normally do not require a heads up, so I might be available for that call almost immediately after reading your message or email.
Availability
========
Can start NOW.
Working weekends is not a problem either — I have a lot of free time on my hands.
