The client wanted a complex software for railway crew management including travelling and station crews. It had to cover the whole business process from the collection of required input data from the timetabling system and from a SAP HR module, through preliminary and operative planning of work schedules to the sending of payroll data to the appropriate SAP subsystem. We undertook the task with a small company, I was the core member of the team. There were two programmers and a tester working with me. I planned the system and the underlying Oracle database. We used a lot of stored procedures and functions which were coded by myself. I had a role in the implementation of the interfaces of the system, especially the bidirectional one towards SAP. I also developed and maintained an algorithmic roster designer and optimizer module for the system written in Python. I have published a scientific paper on some problems addressed in this development. The system is in use for 4 years now, and it is successful, we receive positive feedback.
