Applied Cultural and Medical Anthropologist

I hold a PhD in cultural anthropology and currently work as an applied anthropologist. My work has focused on policies affecting marginalized communities, healthcare, and the environment in Brazil. Although I am new to Upwork, I have been working with cultural and educational projects as a freelancer since 2011. I have worked in Brazil since 2010 and currently divide my time in between Dallas, Texas and Belém, Pará, Brazil. My research is primarily ethnographic and community-based, meaning that I rely on interviews, participant observation, workshops, media, GPS, and other participatory tools to gather and organize data. My most recent projects have been in the Amazon region of Brazil. Examples include creating a georeferenced database of local artisans, providing grant writing support for local cultural projects, and coordinating the logistical, legal, and scientific aspects of a network of phytotherapeutic pharmacies. Because my projects are mostly applied, my research output is often in the form of reports, photos and videos, and/or social media. However, I also have experience writing, editing, and publishing academic articles and book chapters (Chicago and APA). For data analysis, I am proficient at using ATLAS.ti, NVivo, ArcGIS, Photoshop, iMovie, and Audacity. Services offered include: -Proposal writing and project management (for grants and IRB) -General academic research -Policy research -Interview transcription (English) -Translation (English-Portuguese) -Academic editing and proofreading -Qualitative data analysis -Curriculum and syllabus design -Academic consulting (undergraduate and graduate students)
