While capturing bighorn sheep lambs as a biologist in south Dakota I slipped and fell 35 feet off of a cliff. In that moment of feeling the blood rush from my feet to my head time slowed down. I told myself I can’t die yet. I haven’t made my impact on the world. I have always aspired to be working in impactful storytelling through imagery. Working at the CBS affiliate news station, KPAX in Montana, I pursued my goal to have my own wildlife segment which has now been achieved. I believe we all are natural explorers who have an unquenchable need to know and learn. I have a deep desire to understand the world and an incessant curiosity that compels me to aggressively explore it. I pursue this by achieving a vision that is authentic by turning our walls into windows, revealing a fresh and unexpected point of view. I continually push the envelope of creativity while meeting the demands of workflow and people-management requirements. I deliver results and secure the respect of senior management based on my high performance level. All of my experiences have pushed me to the boundary of my mental topography and asked me to redefine my sense of self-perception and my relationship to the wildlife and landscapes around me. Finding meaningful answers to these questions is ephemeral, with each season I change as much as the woods I wander. What remains then is me as a vessel for my experiences and the earth as a medium for me to express them. It should be apparent to all that we need to work harder to unite ourselves in support of our common denominator; the people on whom we depend and the landscapes which support them. Developing this deep sense of reciprocity is essential in laying the foundation for community based education.
