"Freelancer said he lost the work we had completed and that I paid him for, due to a server crash. He requested 5 weeks to recreate it and promised me he would deliver a completed milestone within that time. Today was the due date and he has not delivered anything I can use. In fact, what he showed me today appears to be exactly what he showed me 5 weeks ago, which is unusable. Even before the work was 'lost' I was having difficulty with poor communication, missed deadlines, and lack of productivity and progress for many months. In the beginning I gave him a requested retainer of $240. to start the project, then he requested the first milestone of $500. be released about a month later. He had not actually completed the work at that point, but it appeared to me that he was off to a good start and for that reason I wanted to give him incentive to keep working, to do a good job, and did not want to discourage him, so when he requested the first milestone I decided to pay it, even though the work was not done. That was a mistake because he accomplished very little after that point, although progress was slowly made, but the milestone I had already paid for was never completed and 6 months later he said he 'lost it' due to a server crash in December, and has not since then recovered nor recreated it, as he promised to do. So, this whole project now is just a LOT of my money and a LOT of my time poured down the toilet for nothing. I think I put more of my time into it than he did, because I spent many many hours going over his work and testing things, and writing out instructions about what needed to be better, what wasn't working, etc...., so the money is only part of the loss, since it is 9 months of my life given to creating a 'baby' that will never be born. I'm very frustrated and disappointed about the whole thing."

Then he re-built website framework, but the site was nothing like originally laid out and didn't incorporate much of the earlier progress feedback. When asked to fix, freelancer became unresponsive. Project is total loss."
