Do you need an experienced academic to copyedit or proofread your dissertation, thesis, essay, nonfiction manuscript, or article? Are you looking for a passionate, dependable, and highly responsive grammar/punctuation perfectionist to bring your manuscript to the next level? Clear communication, attention to detail, dedication, and strict adherence to deadlines are key to the success of your project. These are the professional standards you can count on when choosing me to polish your academic manuscript. I'm excited to remove your stress over completing this important final step. I am an experienced editor and proofreader with a passion for making manuscripts the best they can be. I hold a social science PhD and began my career as an academic researcher and writer. I mostly work in APA and Chicago styles, but I will work within any style guidelines to meet your specific requirements. I have worked on a diverse set of projects with tasks ranging from developmentally editing and copyediting novels, dissertations, theses, and other academic papers to writing literature reviews and chapters for nonfiction books. As a result of my strong writing skills and attention to detail, colleagues have often reached out to me to edit and proofread their papers and books. As a teaching fellow, I edited numerous student papers and served as a writing mentor. Being a writer myself, I understand firsthand the importance of strong, accurate editing for the final product. Some of my achievements include having chapters of my research published in Human Rights in Translation: Intercultural Pathways and being awarded the Saint Louis University Graduate Fellow grant for my excellent dissertation writing and research. Why should you hire me? Above all, I am a dedicated worker, and I take great pride in my results. I bring years of editing and writing experience to your project along with an unmatched attention to my work and enthusiasm to be successful. Please reach out if you have any questions. Do you need to clean up or finalize your academic papers, journal manuscripts, thesis, or dissertation? I am your grammar, spelling, and punctuation police! I am results-driven and will honor the deadline(s) you set. My expertise is in APA style (both 6th and 7th editions). I also have copyedited/proofread/formatted papers and manuscripts in AMA, MLA, Vancouver, Harvard, and ASA styles. As your copyeditor, the goal is to make your work cohesive, consistent, and complete. I will revise your draft to make it free of grammatical and factual errors and correct any awkward language and overly wordy sentences. I focus on grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax (sentence structure) for corrections. For formatting, I will ensure fonts, layout, and style consistency according to guidelines (i.e., APA, university, etc.). As a proofreader, I will minimize embarrassing mistakes before publication, specifically looking for and correcting typographical and grammatical errors. I will also detect inconsistency in layout or fonts. My proofreading service will be the final check of your written work before submission to the university, journal editors, or publishers. I primarily use Microsoft Word using track changes for editing and proofreading. I have also used Google Docs through suggesting mode and OverLeaf (LaTex) for previous client work. If requested, I can use these tools. I deliver the work in two versions: tracking and no tracking changes. I pride myself on time management. Upon contract agreement, we will discuss a reasonable deadline for your work. I will send you the deliverables on or before the deadline. If there are any delays, I will inform you immediately. I want to emphasize that good copyediting or proofreading occurs when it is not hurried. Rush editing/proofreading work will incur additional fees.Academic Editing

Top skills in academic, business, fiction, and nonfiction for proofreading, editing, and formatting: Please note that I am a very detailed editor, and I don't usually accept unreasonable rush jobs. If in doubt, please ask though. I thrive on finding mistakes in grammar, spelling, context, syntax, redundancies, repetitions, punctuation, and in facts. The Chicago Manual of Style and APA are home for me, and Webster's Unabridged is my main daily haunt. I also work in MLA, GPO, Vancouver, Harvard, AMA, and AP as well. I love digging into research, too. Academics are my first love, but I am just as comfortable working with businesses and helping authors with their prose. I enjoy coaching and explaining why I am suggesting changes, so there can be growth on the author's part if so desired. It's not about the money—it's about the game! I like the challenge of finding as many errors as possible. I like the challenge of making you look your best. This is why I prefer flat rate to hourly. With a flat fee, the work can be developed without worry. It can be delivered with pride. Because my job is to make your work look good, in most cases, I can't do that while rushing. So unless a rush job is timed appropriately for the level of detailed editing that I do, I can't accommodate rush jobs. Feel free to ask though. It never hurts to ask. There are periods of downtime occasionally. And I like to give back to the community. So, if there isn't a lot of money to work with, please inquire. It never hurts to ask, and if I do have the time, I may be able to help. If you do, please mention that you read my review and would like help on the pricing. To learn about my editing process, ask me for my bio.Academic Editing

I have a PhD in philosophy and am a published academic author. I have a keen eye for errors in grammar, syntax, spelling, punctuation, and formatting, but I edit under the assumption that my client wants their own style and word choices respected. I am happy to provide suggestions for stylistic improvements, but clients must explicitly request that kind of assistance if I am to provide it. I do provide developmental editing (more drastic structural changes), but only in subject areas related to my degrees (philosophy, history, art history, and film studies). I am familiar with a variety of style manuals, including The Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition) and APA (7th edition).Academic Editing

Having mastered the alchemical art of converting information into engaging content, I am offering my services as a writer and editor. My professional and academic achievements demonstrate my ability to write captivating texts and improve existing works. I have worked as a writer and editor in various fields, including journalism, commercial writing and academia. Fluent in Dutch and German, I have also worked as a translator. Armed with these abilities, I have often found work editing texts by writers with less-than-perfect English skills. Most recently I have been busy working as an in-house archivist for SBI (a 165-year-old steel business) and writing lessons for Study.com, an online learning platform. On top of that, my work with Travel Awaits has driven over $200k in revenue to Vrbo in the course of a few months. In 2019 I earned a master's degree in literature with a cum laude distinction from the University of Leiden, one of the world's Top 100 Universities (Humanities). I completed a bachelor's in 2016 from Occidental College.Academic Editing

Is your content stuck in neutral? Let me help kick it into gear. Drawing on over 14 years of experience, I craft authoritative content that attracts attention and engagement. With work that is always on point and on deadline, I can turn your content liability into a strength. Articles I’ve written have garnered millions of unique page views, have been cited in over 45 academic journal articles, and have been linked as a reference by the CDC, FDA, New York Times, and even an amicus brief submitted to the U.S. Supreme Court. But I’m not just a writer or an editor; I’m a problem-solver. ◾Months behind on your content calendar? I’ll get you up to date. ◾Tired of content stalling out at the “idea” or “outline” phase? I’ll push things forward to quickly start publishing fresh content. ◾Lacking in-depth research to make your content authoritative? I’ll roll up my sleeves and boost your content's credibility. ◾Plagued by clunky, disorganized, and keyword-stuffed content? I’ll make it both smooth and SEO-optimized. ◾Struggling to maintain a consistent tone? I’ll help establish a voice and style that suits your brand and target audience. ◾Need a careful eye to make sure the final copy is error-free? I’ll be your trusted proofreader. I am comfortable with almost any topic, but the focus of my work has been in: 🩺Health and wellness (sleep health, diagnostic testing, cancer care) 💻B2B technology (cybersecurity, web3, business lending) 🛒Consumer products (mattresses, bedding, medical equipment) I have worked with AP, Chicago, AMA, and APA styles and have helped build custom in-house style guides. I am ready to tackle virtually any written format, including: 📄Blog posts 💡Thought leadership pieces 📝Website copy 📰White papers 🗂Case studies 📚Academic or long-form journal articles 🗒Press releases 👍Product reviews 🏷Buying guides Regardless of the project, I emphasize professionalism and open communication, including inviting feedback, which enables me to make sure that my work delivers the value that you need. Whether a one-off or recurring project, my process is straightforward: 1️⃣Learn about your needs and what success looks like for you 2️⃣ Define a project scope and timeline of deliverables so that we’re on the same page before I get started 3️⃣ Provide each deliverable on deadline with a request for feedback 4️⃣ Revise until it’s right 5️⃣ Perform a final proofreading check to complete the project With this approach, I’ve won repeat business from literally every freelance client that I’ve worked with.
