For both of these, there were no existing subject matter experts on the team, so I had to learn on my own and become that expert. Most recently, in my position at Focused Labs, I stepped up to organize efforts around a major refactor in one of our applications, became the expert on a complicated timeline page in another, and took on the responsibility of point contact with the client of a third application. This last included communicating that changes to this app were not the current priority for our team, but I was still able to keep the client happy by agreeing to take on a small amount of work that would help them increase sales by offering a promo code.
