Two leading passions have shaped my career: learning how the biological world functions at a molecular and atomic level, and science communication. My interests led me to earn my graduate degrees in biological research, and intern as a scientific writer for a startup website. I have worked in the field of biological research for 10+ years, driven by curiosity about the inner workings of nature. I progressively gained a deep wonder for the myriad biological processes driving nature, and learnt to design experiments that breakdown complex scientific problems into discrete research questions. My last research project involved a proteomic approach to identifying how a cellular protein spatially and temporally regulates cytoskeletal dynamics. This work has the potential to map a network of interactions that drive disease progressions based on cellular motility (such as cancer, pathogenic infections). It was while working in research that I found my passion for science communication and content writing. I freelanced for 3 years at a website (biotechin.asia), and found that I enjoyed deconstructing complex scientific material into comprehensive, memorable pieces supported by evidence and fact. I especially found immense fulfillment in engaging with our readers, and portraying the richness and importance of biological advancements in our world today. My experiences in biological research, and as a writer, have taught me to work within tight deadlines, produce high-quality evidence and fact-based work, write in a versatile manner suited to the targeted audience, combine data-research skills with scientific analysis, and to write in a simple format that retains the essence and importance of the research or topic in question. I also love challenging myself with new avenues of creativity. I'm currently learning the art of digital sketching, as many scientific and educational formats benefit from image or video sketches.
