I worked in a world of healthcare and hospitals as a therapist and clinical leader, dealing with daily dilemmas, making decisions, writing reports, collating risk assessments and, of course, supporting people at times of stress. I left it behind in the months before Covid crept across Europe to live in Berry, France, settling up home in a 'hidden' part of France. I live in France much of the year. We created a new life and settled into days with a very different rhythm. Since 2017, I’ve been writing on the themes of Mindfulness in Everyday Life, Positive Psychology and Slow Travel. I began to blog about our life in the Berry and adapted the term Cottagecore to French Countrycore living! In November, I notice the cranes migrating to the south and in February there are strange days of hoar frost which cloak the landscape. The Berry Bas is steeped in history, with medieval buildings and vibrant markets. I walk across ancient sites where Romans lived and loved. The forest is dark and stretches endlessly in the distance and brings the imagination alive. MY SECOND CAREER Now I'm focusing on fiction and always interested in opportunities to ghostwrite historical or contemporary romantic fiction. I have scaled down my first career to a day a week, to focus on my evolving second career as a fiction writer. It’s been a sharp learning curve, but the hard work has been worthwhile. I’ve written Victorian Suspense, Amish, Werewolf Paranormal and Regency. I’ve also written sweet conteporary Christmas and Billionaire genres. The worlds which I create when writing can be from any epoque in history. I can enter the Regency world with lively dialogue, balls, fashion and dalliance in the gardens of Regency Vauxhall. I lived for many years on the Yorkshire Moors, close to Wuthering Heights and can create an eerie atmosphere for a new governess arriving to a new life in those bleak, northern hills. I know Viking, Medieval, Tudor, Regency and Victorian history and can create a scenario in a palace, a stately house or a market town. I bring scenarios to life and focus on interactions between characters. I enjoy taking an outline and creating the details and scenes within it. I’m organised and structured in my approach to writing. It never seems like work, as the words and ideas just seem to flow. I enjoy bring to life plots and dilemmas in contemporary or historical settings, especially Regency, Victorian Gothic Romance. I’m happy for Werewolves or Faerie creatures to join the plot. I’m happy to write to a chapter outline, but also enjoy the freedom of embellishing the scenery and characters with my own particular blend of skills. I’m adaptable and used to meeting deadlines. If ever an extension is needed for family reasons e.g. family member taknen ill, then I can handle that in a professional way.
