I've been using Upwork since the summer of 2012 as a means of paying off college debt with writing and editing jobs of various skill and educational levels here and there. Throughout those years, I've worked a couple of on-site full-time jobs, but I have also relied on Upwork for supplemental income. Since 2021, I have transformed Upwork into a regular work gig. My concentration lies in transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. This is especially true for writing resumes, cover letters, and technical/instructional articles and manuals. Occasionally, I dabble in editing fantasy fiction and romance novels. Here's more about me and what I do (a.k.a. my old profile that I feel like keeping here for nostalgic purposes): I edit, proofread, and re-write content to make it sound more professional, consistent, and/or entertaining. Deadlines are met in a reasonable yet prompt time frame. I do my best to show professionalism and competence when working with clients. My strengths when it comes to writing and editing include: resumes and cover letters, various product descriptions (food, fashion, jewelry, makeup, home décor, etc.), how-to-manuals, a variety of fiction genres, music and movie reviews, newsletters, and dialogue scripts. My overall style of writing can be described as "terse". If you need someone who is good at chopping up wordy text and getting straight to the point, you've come to the right place. However, I can and have successfully written narrative, persuasive, and descriptive articles. My portfolio is vast.Book Editing

Are you having trouble getting your story out? Do words escape you? Are you too busy? Or, maybe, you've written your first draft and need a solid editor before revisions. Whatever the situation, whatever the story, whatever the stage of writing you're in, I will deliver the results you need. I have over twenty years of experience with the written word and constantly strive to improve my work by studying techniques, conducting research, and putting the pen to the page every single day. With me, you are in capable, meticulous hands. I've always been the sort of person who thrives in order—a creative individual that prefers ideas thrown at her, if you will. I especially enjoy watching other writers flourish, learn, and succeed; it’s one of the most rewarding things about my job. Here on Upwork, I’ve collaborated with a handful of clients on large projects that included services such as heavy editing, ghostwriting, manuscript assistance, outline production, and a slew of other assignments. I do tend to gravitate toward long-term projects, but I am open to the right short-term assignment. My communication lines are wide open for the entirety of the project, and my client has my complete attention. My writing style is fluid. I can do different voices and stylistic flares, though I do insist on realistic human/humanoid reactions inside of the narrative. On a personal level, I'm quite empathetic and, just as in real life, it's very easy for me to see through different viewpoints. This is quite useful in writing, considering how many different personalities and experiences one must adopt in order to tell a good story. I'm a lively, adaptable, personable, and overactive writer as well as a solid editor. I'm very serious about the things that I love, and writing is most certainly one of them. I truly hope that you consider me to write, edit, or assist with whatever it is that needs to be worked on, because there's nobody better for the job. On the topic of genre, I specialize in adventure, supernatural, dark fiction, fantasy, urban fantasy, weird fiction, new adult, and historical fiction. These are genres I enjoy working in the most, and would prefer to stick with, though I have experience with sci-fi, children’s literature, young adult, women's fiction, and romance and will consider a contract under these genres for projects that catch my eye. Below are the current services that I offer. Most prices vary by project, but a flat-rate fee can be negotiated. Thank you for your time, and I sincerely look forward to hearing from you soon. Book Coach: Outline development Manuscript development Character development Theme/Mood development Dialogue Structure Technique Characters Relationship Dynamics As my client, you will receive: A written critique of the manuscript, and specific ways to fix it. This can also include an overview of the skeleton, character bios, scene blocking, and so forth if applicable. After the initial critique, we will rework your story fundamentals. After the fundamentals are locked in place, I will guide you toward a strong finish for your book. Beta reading: Manuscript overview Marketability overview Proofreading: A final edit to clean up any stray mistakes Developmental Editing: Heavy structure editing Creative Writing: Ghostwriting Outlining (Skeletons, scenes, characters, etc) Lore and Worldbuilding Writing Assistance, Writing Partner: One initial video consultation before the contract is initiated, free of charge. We will discuss your manuscript (or your idea for a manuscript,) how much work each of us will contribute, and whether or not we are a good fit for one another. All other video calls will be charged by the hour. As a writing partner, I will do all of the boring legwork so that you don’t have to. Research, networking, method and technique application, etc. I will also either write your outline for you or provide you with a pre-structured outline to fill in.Book Editing

A native of Athens, Georgia, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia, in the footsteps of both of my parents, with a B.S. in Psychology and Public Health minor. Next, I obtained my M.A. in Educational Theatre from New York University. Most of my work was centered around how the arts can be used in prisons for rehabilitation and education. While working as a counselor in a women's prison, I earned a Graduate Certificate in Forensic Psychology. I decided to make a small career change from working with adults to working in the classroom. At University of West Florida, I went through an alternative teacher certification program, and I am certified in Drama, Art, and English. I then went on to teach high school theatre in a large, Title I School near Atlanta. I directed several plays and musicals, including a Shuler Award winner. Theatre will forever be my passion, and I continue to act and direct when I have the chance, with my most recent productions being children's musicals at the Natchez Little Theatre. I have a wide scope of work in education, arts and entertainment, nonprofits, prison reform, and mental health. I currently reside in New Orleans, Louisiana and teach High School English & Drama. I am a Doctoral Candidate at Manhattanville College with an expected dissertation defense in 2022.Book Editing

After four years as a Clinical Care Manager for a major EAP and Managed Care Company, I opened my own private therapy practice in 2003. I continued in private practice until I retired, downsized, and moved from Raleigh, NC, to Shreveport, LA, in February of 2024. During the Covid Years, due to not everyone feeling comfortable with phone therapy sessions, my client list shrunk by nearly 40%. Knowing that I had always been a voracious reader, a friend put me in touch with a professional ghostwriter. Name and contact info upon request. The ghostwriter had just signed on to work for a nationally known author; a high-volume author of science fiction and detective stories via Amazon. This being his first major contract, he wanted a beta reader before each week's 20,000 word submission. He especially wanted to succeed because that particular ghostwriting assignment paid .03 per word, rather than the standard .01-.02 range. When he learned that I also had two years as a copy editor while working my way through graduate school, plus a Masters in psychology, he hired me on a contract basis. The contract consisted of a 20,000 word reading/editing effort each week. The ghostwriter churned out five books to finish off one six-book sci-fi existing series. He followed that with six books in the P.I. Genre. He finished one lead-off book in a fantasy series before finally burning out. He is on record as saying he would have probably burned out sooner without my unofficial therapeutic suggestions. He ended on good terms with the author, and myself, and moved on. Having now retired from my private counseling practice, I have found work as the beta reader-editor of a published author of four children's books. This particular author is of the Theador Geisel school of tossing in obscenities just to get on to the next section without ruining the "flow". It makes for interesting edits. I specialize in fiction of all genres, and technical writing in the field of psychology.Book Editing
