    Thirty years of working in the beauty industry have given me a varied skill set. Working in the past as a Stylist, a Performing Artist, and an Artistic Director led me to consolidate those skills to become a Salon Owner. As I'm transitioning away from my role as an owner, I'm realizing the exciting opportunities ahead of me which will allow me to focus on the skills I've developed. As a Stylist, I cultivated a loyal clientele. Many of my guests chose to continue working with me for 15-20 years. Client Consultations were my specialty which allowed me to offer exceptional communication to my guests to create a look that would make them feel their best. Building these relationships also relied on educating my guests in which products and tools to purchase to recreate those looks at home. My time spent as a Performing Artist gave me the opportunity to share knowledge with other beauty professionals. I was one of the few Artists at the hair care company who was trained in many of the disciplines of our craft. Included in those disciplines were Cutting, Styling, Hair Color, Business, Consultation and Public Speaking. I was authorized to teach each of these subjects in classes as small as five people in a salon setting, to as many as 500 on stage. My favorite class to teach was Train the Trainers. Being able to coach peers as they honed their public speaking skills was both an honor and a pleasure. Being an Artistic Director for a local chain salon was the final piece of the puzzle to encourage me to become a Salon Owner. In addition to working as a Stylist behind the chair, I was tasked with creating a collection of hairstyles, organizing a photo shoot to showcase the collection, and developing an education program. I trained the In-House Trainers as well as Stylists in all four salon locations. I had been working on a program to train Assistants when I began to notice creative differences with the management. We parted ways and I was able to take my Assistant Program and the skills I developed to build my own salon team. Owning a salon and working with an exceptional team was an amazing experience. I was able to use the varied skills I have learned throughout my career to coach, encourage, and support a number of salon professionals to help them become successful. It was rewarding work and I’m grateful for the experience. Closing the salon has been freeing as I’m beginning to understand the transferable skills I’ve learned which will take me into my future. My experiences have left me with an ability to be flexible and to multi-task effectively. Creating content, building training systems, coaching have all become second nature to me. I’m looking forward to the opportunities that will allow me to use these skills in a new and productive way.
