In 1998 during the emergence of the HIV-AIDS epidemic, Diane became a passionate champion and thought-leader for innovative HIV and AIDS management strategies in the African workplace. In 1999 she started her own company, honed her strategic skills and developed one of the first successful approaches for HIV and AIDS response for businesses in South Africa. Her company’s “know your status” campaigns were hugely successful and adopted by large multinationals across the African continent. Diane spoke publicly about the importance of HIV and AIDS awareness and management techniques at numerous seminars, on mulita-media channels and also lectured on the topic at the University of Cape Town’s business school. In 2010 Diane transitioned from her corporate career to the not-for-profit sector. She took a leadership role with a South African NGO developing a community engagement process/social compact for the South African Department of Health in the Eastern Cape Province. Whilst in this role, the era of corporate social investment/responsibility unfolded, and Diane was struck by the need for more strategic and sustainable approaches to donor funded projects. Rising to the challenge, Diane assisted many other African NGO’s to reposition themselves for longer-term Strategic Corporate Social Investment opportunities and subsequent sustainability. This has led Diane to look deeper into the enablers of Sustainability and has become very interested in the Circular Economic models of for example re-use, recycling and repurposing. She has decided that this is what she wants to spend the next phase of her career on.

I started as a Marketing Account Manager and was the only employee initially selected to drive the development of the digital start-up, SSISA Academy, with Dr Michael Posthumus. For the most part, I spearheaded the development of the SSISA Academy brand and was the operational lead. My skills include brand development, marketing, operations management, KPI management, content management, digital marketing, strategic planning, social media and paid advertising, building relationships with elite sporting brands, managing outsourced agencies and more. Over and above my involvement with SSISA Academy, I still run the marketing for the High Performance Centre at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa.
