Became focused on art as my path in life since I was a child, I drew and painted with all my spare time. I had a supportive family and was soon in advanced art classes for my age. Went to Art center College of Design right out of High School as an Illustration Major but left to work. Worked as an apprentice for the entertainment and film industries doing drafting and research. Worked at one of the first early computer animation teams, Kadabrascope, (AKA Nolan Bushnell's Chucky Cheese Theater venture group), as a background artist for computer assisted animation system. I became interested in film, moved from Silicon Valley back to LA to study film making and soon left ACCD to work as a special effects artist. Acquired dozens of practical painting, matte making, and art direction skills working with pre-CGI dominated effects in the 80's to early 90's. At 29, I returned to the university to pursue a career in art teaching. IN 1993, I started teaching Industrial and visual arts at Antelopes Valley High School, Los Angeles Area. After 11 years, I moved up to WA on sabbatical and chose Antioch University to get my master's degree in Whole Systems Design, (Systems thinking for helping communities prosper through the arts). I worked for the Bremerton School District as a Commercial Technical Educator, (CTE), for 15 years. Most notably I taught 11 years full time as a teacher and advisor for the Renaissance Alternative High. It was here where I felt like I was doing the good work for society that I had studied for at Antioch. The smaller teacher to student ratio 1/15 was remarkably helpful and the organization of the school was appropriate to the youth that landed there; (mostly they were seriously behind in credits and in danger of dropping out). Through my art programs and as an advisor, I saw so many students take more control of their lives and saw the power of a positive and nurturing school environment. In 2021, currently, having exited teaching full time, I am supplementing my income with freelance art and design. PROFESSIONAL PROFILE I As a teacher of 25 years, I bring experience with High school, middle school. and as a substitute. I have diverse experience with materials, subject matter and youth.
