I have been telling stories consistently since I was performing puppet shows in the living room as a kid. While my puppet friends and I have parted ways, I still cannot stop myself from seeking out stories and comedy - whether that's in everyday conversations or in my writing. In 2012 I began working on my own personal humor blog satirizing culture, politics, and myself. Working with kids from 2016 to 2019 also gave me an insight into young minds, helping me develop my own sense of creativity and imagination. While studying to get my degree in Writing from Eastern University, I discovered my passion for collaboration as editor-in-chief of Inklings, the college literary magazine. I also had the opportunity to write several short plays alongside the actors that would be performing in them, which was a valuable lesson in learning how to write for and with other people. I am constantly using this skill as a freelancer, balancing my own creative voice with the needs of my clients. My favorite projects have been the children's books, middle grade books, and young adult novels that I have ghostwritten. However, I can write for any age, and have written many genres, from humor, to science fiction, to fantasy, and thriller. For me, the most rewarding aspect of writing is helping others find their voices through believable characters and intriguing plots. This is not the only way to tell a story, though, as I have also helped create various funny scripts for YouTube, the stage, and other types of media. Is your story already written, you just need someone else to take a look and suggest improvements? I can edit it as well, telling you the hard truths while sticking to your vision. If you have a story you'd like to tell, feel free to reach out and I'd love to discuss how I can help. As an editor, I've worked with authors from all over the world, and am currently a freelance editor with Indigo River Publishing based in Pensacola, Florida. With Indigo River, I work as an editor and as an author coach, communicating with writers to help make sure their books are as perfect as they can be - all while sticking with their original visions. I can work on hourly projects (I estimate being able to write between 450-900 words per hour and edit between 900-1,800 words per hour), or write at a fixed rate of $0.18 per word (for books of 10,000+ words) or $0.20 per word (for books below 10,000 words). My editing rate is around $0.09 per word, depending on how extensive the edits need to be. Thanks!

I have a life dedicated to writing and education. Professionally, I have about twenty years of teaching experience in the field of English and writing, in both academic and creative genres. I've loved working with children and adults in a wide variety of subjects, but I always return to writing. Though writing is my primary passion, I hold degrees and certifications in Education, English, Literacy, Music, and History. I currently teach high school history, science, drama/theater, academic skills, and English. In addition to teaching, I write and publish both nonfiction and fiction works under various pseudonyms. I am the author of several young adult/fantasy series, romances, and mysteries under the name of M. Culler. Feel free to check out the wonderful reviews on Amazon! My work as a writer includes articles, short fiction, and novel-length fiction. As an author, I began to form friendships and working relationships with other writers and branched into editing. My current primary focus is on writing. I would love to work with you on your writing or editing project, or projects that are educational in nature. Here's what satisfied clients are saying: "Mary wrote a series of literary analyses that our students will benefit greatly from. An Ivy League-educated dynamic wordsmith, I wear many hats. From author services to developmental editing and plot doctoring, my skill set addresses many professionals' needs. I hold a BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master's of Library and Information Science from Clarion University, and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Children and Young Adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts. FOR AUTHORS...I have worked with indie authors for more than ten years (and am one myself) and know inside and out the opportunities independent and self-published authors have to reach their audiences. However, it can be overwhelming to know where to dive in with marketing, administrative, and publishing tasks and still find time to write. That's where I come in: Let me take care of marketing your words so you can get back to writing them. My areas of expertise include: *Crafting marketing plans (book blog tours, finding book reviewers and managing review copies and giveaways, social media, book launches, cover reveals, podcast guests, paid social media campaigns) *Branding and crafting author image *Social media strategy, execution, and building author presence on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads *Crafting marketing copy, like book descriptions, author bios for books and social media profiles, taglines and microdescriptions *Research, administrative tasks, and project management *Ghostwriting blog and newsletter content *Developmental editing, copyediting, proofreading, fact checking, and beta reading (see next section) *Formatting for Kindle Direct Publishing FOR PUBLISHERS AND WRITERS... I offer these services: *Developmental editing, outlining plots in individual books and across series, book and plot doctor consultation, plot doctoring *Line editing, copyediting, and proofreading *Specialty in the ROMANCE genre: contemporary, suspense, paranormal, billionaire, small town, second chance, clean, sweet, historical, women's literature and chick lit *Crafting book marketing copy, including book descriptions, book blurbs, author bios for books and social media profiles, taglines and microdescriptions for Amazon sponsored products *Book summaries and discussion guides

I am an author and illustrator of a recently published original book for children. I have greatly enjoyed the process of writing and coming up with ideas and seeing those ideas materialize into concrete stories. I enjoy even more the process of illustration and working with color and form. I graduated with a fine arts major and minored in special education, a field I worked in a therapeutic capacity for a very long time and still am very passionate about. I have combined the skills from both of those careers in my literature and art to create entertaining and educational books for young children. I am skilled at working in a variety of mediums and styles, my favorite being watercolor and oil pastel. My favorite subject matter is from the natural world which I spend a great amount of time with. I am also skilled working from the human world as well! I have found the collaborative process of illustrating or writing for others to be extremely fun and rewarding as seeing that person's vision coming to fruition through my handwork is both exciting and exhilarating. I greatly enjoy collaborating with others and working to create something new and unique. I find that learning about the authors as people as well as what has inspired their unique and individual project is greatly helpful and interesting. Doing so enables me to create illustrations tailor made for them and as unique and individual as their story is. I also feel very honored and joyful to be part of another person's creative journey, to help bring something inside of them to life. The best example of my finished work is the children's book "Pura Vida Mae an original story for children" and I am extremely proud of the finished product, being that it is the culmination of a year's worth of inspiration, travel and work (if you really want to call writing and drawing pictures work, fun as it is, though it can be). I am also in the process of following that book with two other books for children that are in the works at this time. One is taking place in Africa. The other takes place in Costa Rica and is being written and illustrated for a non profit conservation organization that is very near and dear to my heart, this book is also part of the same series that "Pura Vida Mae" is. I very much look forward to working with you and creating something great!

I have an AA Degree in Journalism from Delaware County Community College, and I graduated on Presidential Honor Roll. I have continued my education by taking classes for CEU’s including Creative Writing for Beginners, Creative Writing 101, Creative Writing Workshop, Freelance Writing 101, How to Write Short Stories for Children, and Proofreading and Copyediting 101. All classes have been completed with a 95% grade average. I have worked for several clients on Upwork since October 2016 and have always received positive feedback. I have been fortunate to have had many different writing experiences within Upwork and in my writers’ group, where we have collectively published four books and the proceeds of the books are donated to my local library. I have researched and written many medical based articles, which have been used to educate patients. I am creative, clear and concise and I am an excellent researcher. My experience and work ethic would be an asset to any project.
