I've been a writer since I knew how to form words on paper. I started with picture books about octopi in shoe stores, and my ambition grew with age. I completed two novels in high school. Throughout college, I wrote various book reviews and articles, several of which were published. I wrote poetry that was published in the university's journal, and I continued to write various stories and poems for classes. I worked in the university library for 2 years and learned many valuable research skills. I was also hired by a former history professor at the school to type up a book he'd written, editing grammar and typos as I went. Both of these jobs helped me learn a strong attention to detail and how to help others accomplish their goals through my communication skills. After college, I completed a transition to teaching program and have since worked as a high school English teacher for nearly 2 years. I've learned how people learn, I've learned about the struggles that many children in the inner city face, I've learned about the struggles of our current educational system, and I've learned about the difficulties of communicating across cultural and socioeconomic barriers. It's a challenge, but when it happens effectively, it's beautiful. I have a passion for communicating clearly and helping people to understand the world, their own minds, and the people around them. I will work to use my writing abilities to make this happen to the very best of my abilities.

What do I do and who hires me? ~Ghostwriting– Entrepreneurs, engineers, and corporate business executives with a story idea Since 2022, I have collaborated with first-time writers from different fields to ghostwrite and edit their passion projects. Ranging from essay series, to novellas, to full-length fantasy novels, the kinds of writers who find me have long standing, successful careers in “non creative” fields and are ready to combine their ideas with the expertise of someone who has spent that time on the craft and mastery of the written word. ~Editing and Essay writing – Small Presses and Publications CORE Media Publishing Group / Indian Trail, NC 2023 – present Sports and faith-based small press Edited and proofread books such as memoirs of prestigious sports figures, nonprofit owners, and first-time authors. ~North Meridian Press / northeast Alabama / 2024 Interdisciplinary journal of scholarship, culture, and the arts Editorial board member, contributor, and manuscript editor. Solicited for a manuscript ~Wolfson Press / South Bend, IN / 2020 Literary publishing in the arts and humanities with national scope Book reviewer and editor Responsible for supervising and facilitating content for social media platforms, drawing media traffic, encouraging community engagement and interest in the arts, and serving local artists by highlighting their work and providing resources and networks for exposure of their work. ~Grace Connect (formerly BMH Books) / Winona Lake, IN 2013-2018 Publishing and connecting arm of the Charis Fellowship (Formerly Grace Brethren Church) Editorial coordinator for the e-newsletter (weekly) and print magazine (quarterly). Researched, interviewed and wrote journalistic pieces involving interviewing and reporting on the most influential individuals and groups in the Fellowship across the country. Reported “an outstanding writer” who “set a high bar with the newsletter that the succeeding writers haven’t matched.” Consistently received feedback for having a “nose for news” and prompt turnaround time. ~Content writing – Media Companies and Presses 212 Media Studios / Warsaw, IN 2022 Creative agency specializing in digital marketing and content creation Generated and crafted both creative and technical copy for small businesses, from white papers in healthcare revenue cycle management, to social media posts for local theater companies. When the company closed, the hiring manager recommended me as “one of the best writers he’d ever read.” ~BrandPoet Creative Services / Atlanta, GA 2012-2015 Brand identity, brand strategy and storytelling studio Wrote and edited time-sensitive press releases, promotional copy, and other materials for Grace College and Seminary, collaborating with coworkers on branding and copyediting projects and social media initiatives, notably amidst major changes in organizational structure, including a presidential transition and the addition of online programs. Ethos (notable about who I am and how I approach creating with you) >Many of my projects were solicited, meaning that the editor has approached me independently and said, hey, want to write for my publication? In a publishing world that is increasingly cutthroat and the vetting process is as excruciating as the process (finding an agent, much less a press, to publish your work, for instance, can be a job unto itself) being solicited means that people find my work because they want it. >I ask good questions. I can find a story in anything, and I’m interested. If you know there is a story that wants to come through, but you’re not quite sure what it is – I can help you find it. >I am comfortable with conflict. A lot of my jobs have acquainted me with the potentially nasty side of relations: from a highly-inflammatory presidential transition at a religious school, to managing multiple classrooms of students during the pandemic, I have a lot of experience in highly sensitive situations and am not only practiced in the relational dynamics of such situations, but have been approached to write about them. I have written about suicide, institutional abuse, and religious trauma, contributing to discourse that could easily become highly inflammatory, with diplomacy and grace, without bypassing. >I’m a bit of a curmudgeon. While I’m willing and able to “play the game” and live in the world of content creation, LinkedIn posts, and SEO optimization, I value and seek to keep space open for creativity that isn’t driven by profit and commodification. Call me old-fashioned, but I think this ethos is a special niche, and I trust that others who feel this way will find each other. Nerdy Stuff that is still kind of a big deal: >I have a published book, and two more on the way through North Meridian Press. >I was Covid-year student editor of Analecta, the award-winning literary journal of Indiana University South Bend, responsible for marketing, branding, designing and distributing the journal.

My name is Sharon Hassfurther and I am a biomedical engineer. I received my bachelor's degree from Purdue University. I subsequently worked six years in the medical device manufacturing industry. My academic and professional experience pertains to not only engineering, but also writing. A LOT of writing. I have written countless technical protocols, reports, instructions, presentations, proposals, and summaries. Writing and documentation are definitely my strengths. Though my repertoire from the engineering field contains mostly technical writing, I succeed at creative writing as well. I have written articles and website material for various jobs. I am also a published author of a children's book. I have strong work ethic and project management skills and would love to contribute to your project. I look forward to working with you!
