I have been working for Eni Spa for over 19 years. Currently, I’m based in Rome and I’m Head of Climate policies and market mechanisms. Particularly, I’m in charge of: • Elaborating Eni’s position on climate change topics, aligned with climate international agreements, and advocating the Eni position with external stakeholders (Italian and European institutions and authorities, business associations). • Monitoring carbon pricing mechanisms and low carbon technologies supporting tools, to catch business opportunities. • Assessing the evolution of the voluntary carbon markets in terms of supply/demand balance, prices, certification standards (Verra, Gold Standard, etc.) and methodologies. My professional career has been all time long focused on climate policies and carbon markets, both compliance and voluntary, having both operational experience (carbon markets trading) and strategy/policy knowledge. Currently, I’m also involved in assessing the best practices around climate disclosure (es. SBTi) with a particular focus on disclosure and quality of carbon credits (IC-VCM, VCM and others). Carbon credits can play an important role in the decarbonisation pathways of private companies, but the risk of greenwashing is around the corner. That’s a reason why I’m strongly focused on giving directions to the NCS projects operation Dpt, in order to generate carbon credits with highest quality and use them with sound accounting rules. Previosuly, I had a work experience in London as carbon portfolio manager (3 years) working for Eni Trading and Shipping Spa. I was involved in managing Eni's carbon portfolio and elaborating the optimal trading strategies in order to minimize the cost of the European Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS) compliance and to maximize the profit of the pure trading activity. I was also directly involved in originating projects for carbon credits in the Least Developed Countries and developing carbon sales portfolio. I started working at Eni in the Strategies and Portfolio Development Department at Corporate level, where I spent over 5 years. My task was to develop the Company’s strategic goals and plans to achieve those goals in relation to the Company’s mission and vision statements. The focus was on the Refining industry and on alternative energy sources and energy efficiency. These experiences have allowed me to acquire deep technical and strategical competence on the carbon markets and carbon credits. Currently, I also manage four people, and this helped me to improve my organizational and managerial skills. I also developed a long-term strategic thinking.
