The best experience I've got was gathered by working with a group of small MBE businesses in NYC. I don't wish to disclose the LLC name or owner's name. The owner worked with me twice on small projects and then offered me to work with him as chief of operation where my role was to develop all businesses. When I joined he had 2 businesses in NY and now with my and my team's hard work and dedication he is the owner of 7 businesses in NY & NJ. I also worked on getting him PANYNJ, SBE, SBS MBE, LHCSA, NHTD, and NYS M/WBE certificates and registration. Obviously, all credit goes to the owner as I got all the support to accomplish everything. At first, it was a group of 2 businesses, start-ups run by the revenue made from one single business. After joining we got two more LLCs. Those start-ups focused on cleaning, staffing, and medical billing services. I have managed to lift off all of those businesses by myself and take an abundance of pride in sharing how I did it. Firstly, I installed all the software needed to smoothen up the communication and project management, i.e; Slack, Asana, G Suite, Shared drive, Grasshopper, etc. Then started looking for tech-savvy smart fresh graduates from developing countries with fluent English. Instead of UpWork or Fiverr, we looked into local VA communities in Jamaica, Bangladesh, and the Philippines. We hired 1 VA from Jamaica and 2 from the Philippines. I started asking for quotes/proposals from different companies acting as a client. Being resourceful, I assigned one of the VA to research and create generic proposals and pricing tiers for each business. Meanwhile, Facebook offered $100 free to test out the marketing campaign. Took the opportunity and executed a campaign for the cleaning business focusing on restaurants only. We also invested a small amount in Thumbtack and Craftjack. Within one month, our first client reached out to us looking for a quote for daily cleaning in a restaurant in Manhattan. They asked for references, I shouldn't disclose this, but we had our friends vouch for us. I ensured to create a workflow for each task, i.e, how to send a quote using Get Jobber or how to onboard a cleaner in the payroll management system, how to use multiple emails in one Gmail account, etc, Every little thing was documented with a great deal of dedication and care. Then we focused on govt city contracts. Created accounts in passport, sam.gov, NYSCR, Bidnetdirect, Building Connected, and many more. We learned that different govt organizations like PTAC, SBS, EdsiSolution, Workforce, etc are put in place to help small MBE businesses grow. We started reaching out to all of them and setting up meetings regarding how we can land govt contracts. And that's how I connected with Nelson, Aniel, Luna from PTAC; David, James from SBS, Paula, Samantha from EDSI; Breanna, Jenelle from Workforce1, and many more important personnel. Focusing on managing all the businesses, finding new clients, taking care of existing clients, submitting govt contracts where agencies are sending RFQs/IFBs/RFPs, in short working on everything was really troublesome for me and the owner. We hired two more people from Bangladesh to help us out. I showed them how to fill up forms, what is VRQ, the prevailing wage, how to incorporate NYC sales tax, and every other little thing. It was really easy because I used to create a small workflow process for every single task or record loom video if it was complicated. Came to know that each government agency has one CDO (Chief Diversity Officer) who always stands for the minority. With the help of SBS (Small Business Services), I gathered a list of 48 CDOs from both Mayoral and Non-mayoral agencies and started reaching out to them. Started sending them our capability statement, proposal, and everything we had. After trying for a month Pullo Vincent from the Department of Social Services reached out to us and asked to work on an RFP (Request for Proposal) regarding emergency procurement for RA requests for Registered Nurses and Social Workers. And that's the tale of the staffing agency. All hands were on the deck. We created everything within two days and submitted the final proposal. We submitted it to the staffing agency but that was the first potential client. We didn't even know how to find all these nurses and SWs. Upwork allows me to write only 5K words.
