From my 6 years of experience of failure and success, I’ve seen 3 common points of failures in B2B content (whether it's for social or SEO): Point of Failure 1: Lack of strategic narrative Random tips & tricks don’t reinforce the unique position that the brand has in their specific category. The audience and viewers also never become aware of which of their problems can be solved by the brand. The result: you get views, likes, comments but no one ever reaches out for your solution. Point of Failure 2: Messaging about the brand, generic benefits, or “solution” When the time comes to sell in our content, most use the wrong messaging. No one cares about our brand (aka a group of strangers). Generic benefits can be bought from any service. And our solution isn’t actually seen as a solution without us framing the problem that it solves. Point of Failure 3: Strategy not aligned with driving high intent pipeline Because most B2B content marketers don’t know how content can actually drive pipeline, they hide behind vague success like “trust, brand awareness, & thought leadership” while the marketing leader (CMO) gets beat up for not driving enough high intent and qualified leads. Instead, our content needs to market and educate on the specific problem(s) that buyers have and that our brand solves. The brand that markets the problem becomes seen as the obvious solution.
