Welcome! I appreciate you stopping by to learn a little about who I am and what I can do for you. Editing is my calling, and I have invested myself into providing you with the best value so that everyone wins in the end. I understand that writing and publishing is a long process, so I'm here to make it a little easier. My goal is to set you on your way with content that you are proud to publish. Writing is a messy process, so my job as your copyeditor/proofreader is to help you clean that mess up and present your message to the world with confidence. If that book you’re writing is the culmination of years of work, you’re going to want to make sure it says exactly what you want it to say—no chances for miscommunication or embarrassing typos. If you write a company newsletter, let’s work together to be sure that your drive and vision for your company comes through clearly in the columns you and other contributors write. I’m not picky about the medium you use for your content—book, short ebook feature, newsletter, blog series, and anything else between—I work with whatever you bring me. I AM picky about my work, though, so you can be sure that I will give you my best. My highest goal is your greatest success. In addition to what I mentioned already, I've also worked with fiction, nonfiction, and medical texts, and have experience with Chicago, MLA, APA, AP, and Turabian styles (and any combination or modifications in between). I completed my Masters of Science degree in Publishing from Pace University in 2016 and have 10 years of copyediting experience.Creative WritingError DetectionAcademic EditingLine EditingWritingLaTeXResearch PapersBookEnglishCopy EditingProofreading - $40 hourly

I've been a published author for decades, with novels, short stories, and reviews to my credit. I am also a developmental editor and ghostwriter with excellent references from my many satisfied clients. The video to the left is a book trailer I created in PowerPoint for JERSEY GHOULS (2018). My first book was, oddly enough, a children’s book, DINOSAUR DRESS UP, published by Tambourine Press (a division of William Morrow) in 1992. Since then, I’ve published many other books, mostly science fiction, fantasy, and horror. I’ve also ghostwritten more than a dozen works of science fiction, fantasy, memoirs, and cozy mysteries. My short story "In the Conservatory" was nominated for the Pushcart Prize. Beginning in 2024, Regal House will publish my trilogy of Middle Grade books set in ancient Egypt. The first book is titled MURDER IN MENNEFER. I’m a trained artist, and have had hundreds of drawings, paintings, and illustrations to my credit, over a freelance career spanning 50 years. I’ve designed everything from Christmas cards to tattoos. I'm an enthusiastic collaborator, and take pride in delivering projects on or ahead of deadline. I live in Rockingham County, North Carolina with my wife and occasional collaborator, novelist Grace Marcus. I also play a mean kit of drums and performed in bands for over five decades. My pledge to clients: I will never use ChatGPT in any aspect of my work for you. What you will get is 100% Al Sirois. My most recent references: Thank you for your creativity and professionalism. A M-K Allen S is a very creative writer. His storylines are interesting and intriguing. He meets all deadlines, communicates well, collaborates in a collegial way, and produces an entertaining story. I highly recommend Allen and would be happy to hire him again. J W A big thank-you to Allen for a job well done in editing my story and adding some much needed depth to some of its characters. I am a professional voice artist with over twenty years of experience. I have provided voices for animated features, training seminars, commercials, webinars, video games and audio books, including titles such as "Twelve Years A Slave", "Huckleberry Finn" and "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas". My range includes character voices as well as informational deliveries, whether dramatic or more subtle or conversational. My voice clients have included individuals, corporations and government entities in the United States, Canada, Israel, the Ukraine, Western Europe and Asia. I also provide my own editing and mastering in most cases, and can apply those skills to projects that do not include my voice. I am flexible, focused, provide quick turn around, and my rate includes any revisions needed up to 30 days after the close of a contract. I also have over twenty years of experience in customer service, Arts administration, teaching, management, creative writing, non-profit work, improvisational comedy and public speaking. I hold two BA degrees, one in Communication Studies and one in Theater Performance, and also a Masters degree in Liberal Studies/Interdisciplinary Studies. I have taught privately, in the NC school system and also as an adjunct professor (during which time I served on various thesis committees). Presently I serve as the Artistic Director of a non-profit theater company. I have also been the co-company manager of an improvisational comedy group for the last 20 years. I have vast experience in writing press releases, forming curriculum, training employees, and leading group activities and workshops (corporate and public sector). I am comfortable working as part of a team or on my own, and have a strong work ethic, accompanied by a professional attitude and good time management skills. Along with my "real world" experience, I have been a director of plays and variety shows for over 20 years, and have directed casts of over 100 people on quite a few occasions. I have strong leadership skills, enjoy helping others reach their goals and have an active imagination that I enjoy applying to projects. I have also organized several fund raisers and charitable events. Regardless of the work setting, whether customer service, writing, management or performance, I possess the ability to be creative and have relied upon my ability to think "outside the box" to the benefit of myself and my employers. I also have a strong sense of humor (which goes a long way towards avoiding experiencing or causing stress!). I enjoy researching and am a quick study of disciplines that are new to me. I have, for the last 8 years, also been a privately contracted in-bound phone call service agent. I am comfortable dealing with situations that require discretion, and am detail oriented. I bring a wealth of information and experience to each project. After more than 20 years working in retail advertising and handling several positions: proofreader, print buyer, media manager, broadcast & web writer, and copy manager, I decided to go freelance about 17 years ago. I relish the challenge of working on different projects for multiple clients and consistently bringing new life to stale ideas. I enjoy educating the reader, making him/her laugh, or simply making something that could be boring and lifeless into copy that intrigues and is easily understood. With my retail background I am consistently focused on selling whether that means a product, an idea, or a way of life. One quality that makes me different from many other people is that I am as adept at scrutinizing the details (composing indices for 300+ page catalogs by hand, proofreading/editing, or being responsible for a multi-million dollar budget) as I am at being creative. That means I work equally well whether given tight parameters or let loose to run through the fields of my imagination and have a chat with the voices in my head. I ensure that the customer is happy with the final product and I strive to do the best job possible, be on point, and on time.Creative WritingMicrosoft WordProofreadingCopy EditingWritingCorporate Brand IdentityError DetectionCopywritingContent WritingHumor WritingPrint AdvertisingSEO WritingEnglishArticleEducation - $42 hourly

Currently Accepting: Beta reading, developmental editing, and proofreading jobs. Please note that if your manuscript hasn't been edited and "proofreading" turns into "editing," then I will charge extra for the job, or we'll part ways since the job wasn't as discussed.
