I am a professional editor and proofreader of books, blog posts, articles, academic papers, private letters, and everything in between, currently employed at Proofit (a subsidiary of Grammarly), Compose.ly, and the Urban Writers. Work Experience: At Compose.ly, I have edited 400+ articles and blog posts (ranging from 500–5K words in length) for a range of companies such as WebMD, MedicineNet, APCO Worldwide, Apex Media, Travelcamp, MyLifeWell, and Fuzzy Pet Health. My responsibilities include reviewing customer requirements and brand details, checking sources, handling proofreading, supervising client-requested revisions, and confirming that requested keywords were included and adhered to SEO best practices. At Grammarly, I’ve edited everything from doctoral theses to workplace emails and helped to consistently improve the algorithms that our 7 million clients use every day. Additionally, as the scope of our business has expanded, I received a promotion, becoming part of the company's "Clarity" tier. Clarity editors specialize in beyond the prescriptive rules of grammar to look at the bigger picture: elements like focus, flow, and brevity. As part of this task force, I condense and rearrange content as needed to improve readability and emphasize a piece of writing's most significant points. At the Urban Writers, I have worked as a freelance editor of 25+ manuscripts belonging to a wide range of genres (though I specialize in self-help) and ranging from 2K–100K words in length, coordinating with writers and using customer outlines to make sure that any given manuscript always aligns with the stated objectives for that project (including adherence to specific style guides). All projects are completed on a contractual basis with additional revisions made at the request of the customer, to be completed prior to a deadline specified within the contract (based on an average of 5,000 words edited per day). Educational Background: I graduated summa cum laude and with Honors from the University of Jamestown, majoring in English and Religion-Philosophy and receiving a fellowship in both departments. I also minored in Creative Writing and Character in Leadership, and I received a Nolle Scholarship from the Alpha Chi Honor Society (for a piece of literary analysis I submitted as part of a nationwide essay contest), an Academic Scholarship from the state of North Dakota, and both a full-tuition Wilson Scholarship and the Professional Achievement in English Award from the University of Jamestown. About Me: I appreciate writing as both an art and a science, something that influenced me in my choice of University minors: Creative Writing and Character in Leadership. Both taught me to passionately embrace individuality, but the former also gave me the flexibility and encouragement to freely stretch my imagination, while the latter grounded me in organizational theory and taught me the value of self-reflection. Lifelong improvement is a significant goal that pushes me to take on diverse challenges and master a wide range of subjects while also holding me fast to my core values of Discovery, Empathy, and Cooperation. Perhaps these core values are reasons why my first love has always been literature—or, more broadly speaking, storytelling. Stories bring us together, both physically (from sitting around a campfire to congregating at the movie theater) and mentally (giving us that philosophical glimpse into another person's "reality"). My own tastes have always tended toward the fantastical—imaginary worlds that let me stretch my imagination in new and exciting ways—but I always come back to that kernel of humanity at the heart of every tale. Every story is a mirror, and I've found some piece of myself in everything from Charles Schulz's Peanuts to Charles Dickens's Hard Times, from Game of Thrones to Pride and Prejudice, and from William Shakespeare to Shingeki no Kyojin. More importantly, I've also seen pieces of those around me and gained a better understanding of the things that bring us together and pull us apart. Mostly, bring us together.Creative WritingAnalytical PresentationEditing & ProofreadingCopy EditingCustomer ServiceProofreadingError DetectionSearch Engine OptimizationPoetryEssay Writing - $16 hourly

I have a broad base of writing and editing experience, including web writing, medical journalism, informative content, and creative writing (poetry and prose). I am always open to questions about my experience, and how it fits the specific needs of your project. I graduated from the University of North Dakota with a B.A in 2019, where I majored in English Language and Literature, French Language and Culture, and Interdisciplinary Studies. I held leadership positions in the Writing Club and the Adelphi Literary Society, and I was honored to receive a scholarship for my poetry in 2019. I spent 1.5 years working as a Web Writer at the Center for Rural Health's Rural Health Information Hub, where my duties included: interviews, audio transcriptions, copyediting, writing for The Rural Monitor, and creating and maintaining pages for rural health programs. I've also held several volunteer positions, including as a fiction editor at Coffin Bell Journal, and as a first round judge for the 2022 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. My 7+ years of library work, both public and academic, have given me everyday business and outreach writing skills, and a unique window into trends in book popularity. I've led creative writing groups for ages 8-12 and 10-14, where I designed our material according to the ages and interests of the young writers. I've also taught incoming college freshman how to use and evaluate library materials and databases. If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with me. Thank you for your time, and I hope to connect with you!Creative WritingFiction WritingGhostwritingEditing & ProofreadingContent WritingStory EditingJournalism WritingGoogle DocsWriting CritiqueCopy EditingWritingMicrosoft OfficeTranscription SoftwareAudio TranscriptionPoetry - $15 hourly

I am a planetary science graduate student and an aspiring research scientist. One of my goals as a writer is to help make the wonders of the universe accessible to the general public and to inspire the imagination of readers with worlds that could exist and how this one could be changed for the better. My specialty in writing is science, history, and creative writing. For my non-fiction writing, my skill is writing in-depth analysis of topics and putting them in a broader context, especially a broader historical context. I have written articles for magazines like Ancient Origins and Decoded Science on science and historical topics ranging from the great unconformity in geology to ancient Chinese paper armor. I also write educational content on science (astronomy, geology, physics, chemistry, archaeology) and history (ancient world history and prehistory) at least up to the undergraduate college level. For educational content, my goal is to write so that I am taking the intellectual abilities of students seriously, not dumbing it down, but also to write in a way that avoids unnecessary complexity or jargon. I also write so that my work is inspiring and relatable to the daily lives of students. My passion for inspiring students in their education comes from experience being a tutor both one-on-one and at Saturday schools and after school programs. For my fiction writing, I am skilled at plot development and world-building. I certainly would be more than happy to assist any writer who needs help at any stage in creating a science fiction or fantasy world. As a PhD student at the University of North Dakota, I am also working on real scientific research. One of my current projects is using Dawn mission data to study potential cryovolcanic domes (think volcanic domes but where the molten material coming out is water instead of rock) on the dwarf planet (1) Ceres to determine why one of them, Ahuna Mons, is so distinctive from the others and what this could reveal about the evolution of icy bodies in the solar system over time and how long they could potentially support life. I am also working on a project with the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory to use stress modeling software and geologic mapping based on Voyager 2 image data to determine the internal structure of Uranus' moons Miranda and Ariel including the whether they have subsurface oceans, which is important for search for life beyond Earth and for understanding the nature of the Uranus system and its satellites and how they change over time. Why is understanding how planets change over time so essential? It is cool, most Important! It also shows us how planets work, which is important for those of us who live on planets, such as Earth. Another broad goal I have as a writer is to increase the volume of high quality and useful informational content on the internet, and I know that you, my potential client, want that as well. So, hire me and we will make it happen together.Creative WritingTechnical WritingAcademic EditingScientific WritingScientific ResearchContent EditingAcademic WritingBlog WritingPython - $15 hourly
