For the past 32 years, I have worked in the social studies realm in two school districts and one university in Delaware. I began my teaching career in 1991 as a seventh grade social studies teacher in a public school district. After successfully teaching for eight years (having been named my school’s teacher of the year in 1998), I transitioned into school administration serving as that middle school’s assistant principal for five years and that same middle school’s building principal for nine years. In my tenure as a building principal, my staff and I were able to take our school from “under improvement” to regularly meeting annual statewide targets; I was named the MetLife/NASSP’s Middle School Principal of the Year for Delaware in 2012. In 2013, I moved from a building to a district administrative position as a Supervisor of Instruction with one of my primary areas of supervision being social studies. Transitioning to another public school district in Delaware, I have continued to serve as a Supervisor of Instruction coordinating the work across the district in social studies and other areas; in 2022, I was named the National Social Studies Supervisors Association’s Mel Miller Outstanding Social Studies Leader. In 2004, after completing my doctorate in Innovation and Leadership at Wilmington University, I was asked to teach a masters level Methods of Teaching Elementary Social Studies course there. During that course, I developed a strong partnership with Delaware’s Historical and Cultural Affairs to expose my students to the living and archival resources available in the area. Together, we created a hands-on, interactive program for future teachers of Delaware. In 2020, Wilmington University asked me to develop and teach an undergraduate course (Social Studies for Elementary Education Students) to help prospective elementary teachers successfully complete the social studies Praxis exam. I am also an aspiring voice actor excited about opportunities to lend my voice to training videos, audio books, and more!Curriculum DevelopmentTeachingCurriculum DesignEducationProfessional DevelopmentEducation PresentationProfessional Tone - $80 hourly
