The centerpiece of my career was when I was summoned to New York to meet with David Letterman and his team for a two-week consultation. After hearing my revolutionary solutions to their multi-year challenge of finding fans that aligned with Dave's unique brand of humor, they created a high-level marketing position specifically for me, which I remained in until Dave retired from the show 17 years later. I have been credited with keeping David Letterman's tenure on the "Late Show" at CBS going for 15 years longer than it would have continued otherwise by figuring out a way to specifically identify, engage, market to, and vet prospective members of his live studio audience. Before my arrival, because the show was a tourist attraction, many attended who were not accustomed to Dave's humor, which necessitated my expertise to regularly produce a full house that consisted of people who were most likely to appreciate and respond outwardly to the content of the show. Once at the studio, I designed an unparalleled fan experience to prime our guests to be a part of the show rather than just spectators of it. No stone was left unturned at every guest touchpoint to make the ultimate goal possible; creating an environment for Dave to be the best he could be each night. When in front of his "tribe," he gave a more inspired performance, which translated into higher ratings and the ability to generate millions of additional dollars in sponsorship revenue. While I have spent a large portion of my career in the Entertainment Industry, it is important to recognize that EVERY BUSINESS has an ideal audience that they must identify and compel if they want to maximize their success and revenue. Early in my career, I was tasked with inviting people to attend screenings of new television shows that were unheard of with unrecognizable casts. It was the equivalent of a focus group networks utilized to gauge the public's interest. I learned that my colleagues the day before repeatedly got turned down when they asked people if they wanted to attend the screening of a new TV show. Occasionally, someone would stop to ask, "Who is in it?" only to keep moving when they did not recognize anyone. My "co-workers" failed to sign up a single person and told our boss that it was impossible. It is very likely that had I not been given the above opportunity to salvage their results, I would not have had the experiences I shared with you above, and you would not be considering hiring me because this is what put me on the map with heads of companies. Instead of inviting people to attend the screening of a TV show, I asked people if they wanted to influence which shows would be enjoyed by millions of people next season.
