I began coding on a Commodore 64, a console that required complex commands just to play a game on the family TV. My first paid programming job in 2002 was migrating some old FoxPro programs into C#. I moved on to develop many Microsoft .NET web services in C# and SQL Server for banking, printing, transportation and healthcare clients. For one client who was required to comply with fluctuating federal standards, I developed a system that routinely processed 100,000 records through EDI on FTP using SSIS. Another client required synching data between an Azure SQL database with an IBM DB2 JD Edwards back-end. There went millions of records in the queue daily! Being a team player, I've often been an Agile facilitator / Scrum Master, and technical trainer. My attention to detail and best practices have routinely landed me in the seat of designated code reviewer. Although my expertise is in system-to-system integrations, such as linking external web APIs to back-end mainframes, I have various other experience and interest. My programming career started using languages like Assembler, Basic, Passcal, C and C++. The first years of my programming life were spent creating, maintaining, and upgrading portfolio management systems for Teleware, Inc. (AKA BestWare). Our major product, Market Manager, was written in Pascal. After creating the product on the Apple II platform, I was tasked with moving it to the PC. This multi-platform skill set has been a major part of my life to this day. After creating products like M.Y.O.B on the Mac, I was tasked with migrating them to the newly created Microsoft Windows. After moving on from Teleware, I worked with Avantos Performance Systems on a product called ManagePro where I had to maintain cross-platform compatibility of a single C++ source base between Mac, Windows, and Unix (X-Windows). My code was able to handle any platform specific code that was especially useful where database issues arose. I was able to have a single back-end that was fully accessible by all three platforms by overloading the data classes to address issues like byte, word, double-word, etc. alignment/swapping real time. Moving onto more recent technologies, I designed, implemented, and deployed several products that expanded on the cross-platform philosophy to include mobile and web. My systems supported desktop platforms using web systems written in PHP/MySQL These web systems communicated with mobile environments in iOS written in Objective-C and Android written in Java. Quite a bit of my recent history has been spent programming in VBA for Microsoft Access and Excel. Because of my prior experience developing in C with the Mac Toolboxes and Windows APIs I've been asked to write many libraries using API's to transfer data with external systems like Salesforce, Sage Accounting, and e-check / credit card processors. My SQL database design experience came in handy converting my VBA code to Microsoft SQL Server T-SQL stored procedures. Throughout my programming career, I've always enjoyed implementing complicated higher mathematics. Converting financial calculations into algorithm deployed in all of the above languages I'm just finishing up an Upwork project "Program an function(algorithm) in Javascript based on a formula from an academic article" where the paper was written in the 80's "Developments in Business Simulation & Experiential Exercises, Volume 10, 1983" using calculus notation and I had to convert to algorithms/JavaScript functions that I displayed in a web page to allow entering values to confirm my functions were valid. Further back in my experience, in one of my Guru.com projects, "C Programming for Matrix Combinations", I was contracted to program a user interface in Visual C++ that used complex math for matrix combinations (matrix inversion, multiplication, etc.). I displayed results using the MFC in a Polar plot. I also had to implement a security feature where a 3rd party library extracted a hardware "fingerprint" of the environment to confirm there wasn't a license violation. It was quite interesting and I'd like to continue working on projects that remind me what "real" programming is about.
