I am an academic proofreader and editor with professional membership to the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading and certification by the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences. My background in academia means I am not just a regular proofreader who fixes spelling and grammar mistakes. I will ensure your document, be it a journal submission, book, or final year thesis, has the appropriate tone and formatting style for your audience. Alongside my PhD I also trained for my postgraduate certificate in higher education, qualifying me to use a broad range of teaching skills to enhance my students' learning. I subsequently taught undergraduate and postgraduate students for seven years and then international students exclusively at INTO University of Exeter for a further four years. As such, I understand the specific difficulties that EFL writers face. Please do not hesitate to get in touch for more information.

I am a fiction editor with eleven years of experience working with romance indie authors, many of whom have bestselling titles, including New York Times and USA Today. I specialize in developmental editing, where I help authors strengthen their writing and storytelling, as well as copy/line editing and proofreading. I've also published twenty-eight novels, so I understand the importance of maintaining an author's voice while ensuring the manuscript is free of grammatical errors and the story flows without plot or character holes.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to visit my profile. I am a 29-year-old freelance writer and editor who is based in Manchester, UK. I am experienced in fiction writing, ghostwriting, copy editing, and proofreading. In my free time, I have an avid interest in reading and writing fiction novels, specifically in fantasy and romance genres. I have self-published several short stories between five thousand to twenty thousand words as well as full-length novels and novellas from 30,000-100,000 words. During my time at university, I became very excited about the etymology of words and translating Old English texts to modern day English, which is a hobby I have continued since and as such I am very proficient in grammatical structure and syntax, as well as the history of the English language. In the last two years, I have become a top rated freelancer on Upwork by ghostwriting romance as well as editing and proofreading a variety of different genres both fiction and non-fiction. I have gained copious experience working on projects like these on Upwork and I look forward to many, many more. From my employment, I have experience in the charity sector of government policies, practices, and procedures concerning safeguarding and welfare. I also have experience in the food industry and I am well versed in the British Retail Consortium standard of food safety as well as government regulatory standards. I am used to writing to a high standard as my work has needed to meet government welfare and food industry standards. I also have professional experience in administrative support, which includes data entry, policy writing/editing, report writing, and trend analysis. I look forward to working with you.

Hi, I’m Kirsty! I’m from Scotland, a beautiful country known for its whiskey, friendly people, and constant rain. I love Pilates, dogs (of course, who doesn’t?), reading, and experiencing as much of the world as possible. I have a Business Management with Marketing degree from the University of Edinburgh and almost ten years of editing experience. I am also certified by the Proofreading Academy for Proofreading and the CIEP for Copyeding 1. I have two passions in life: travel and literature. I’ve spent the last ten years absorbed with both, reading every book under the sun while travelling the world, so you might say I’ve been living the life. Becoming an editor allowed me to combine my passions and find a new one along the way: helping authors make their writing the best it can be while creating more books for people to fall in love with. I’ve spent the last five years working this dream job, helping writers find their voice and reading new, fantastic literature each and every day.

I offer a variety of research-informed services for businesses and individuals, spanning comprehensive literature review documents, white papers, strategy consultations, case studies, coaching, grant applications and other things. My PhD was in History, but my most recent academic employment was in Global Sustainable Development which spans many academic disciplines. I have previous experience in business and financial research/analysis, and am involved in a couple of AI startups. Some examples of the work I provide are: 🎓 Academic research for businesses and individuals. My specialism is reviewing literature – whether to help with a new research area, or to develop a new business venture. I have access to a range of academic information and am a web-search guru. If there is information on your topic I will find it, synthetize it, and present it in the format you require. I'm particularly keen on developing relationships with businesses who will use the research I provide to develop impactful products. I know enough about product development to work excellently alongside development/engineering teams to ensure my research is effectively wrapped for that purpose. *Note for academics and postgraduates: take a look at my specialized profile for Academic Writing (left/up). ✍️ Grant Writing I have written successful grants for a variety of projects over the past seven years, from ERC bids (from France/Belgium) for scholarly research, to real estate sustainability grants in the US. I'm an expert in articulating your story clearly, in a way that resonates with the grant providers' requirements. Total funds raised to date for clients: $700k, €2.3m, £450k. *note for non-profits whose aims align with my ethics: I offer this service at a reduced rate of $60ph. 🗣️📚 Coaching, knowledgebase-building, personal research assistant Some of my client relationships evolve into coaching commitments with regular conversations. These are completely open conversations about what you’ve been thinking about, in any domain of life – conversations jump from education to AI, climate change to ETH, spirituality to neuroscience, your relationships to astrophysics. They span across personal, professional, and philosophical topics. Whatever feels salient to your bodymind. And while we chat, I build out your knowledge base from my notes, do some background research, and share both with you. Long-term clients say I help keep them sane and remind them what really matters in life; the products they develop and teams they enhance with their knowledge-bases and chatbots we develop on the back of them are a side benefit. 🙋‍♂️ About me and my work I avoid niches, communicate clearly, only take on work I can perform to an exceptional standard, and deliver on time (always). Seven years ago, I resigned from a wonderful academic post and set sail on a yacht with my wife and three young boys. We live simply and minimally, and have recently sailed back across the Atlantic to the UK after a few years in Guatemala and Belize. I only work part-time. 📝 Some notes I never compete on price, but I do offer advice. If you open a message with “I have virtually no budget for this, but here’s a great project I think you’d love” and ACTUALLY HAVE A GREAT PROJECT, I will offer a few words of wisdom or connect you with someone that might be able to help. But I will not work with you for free, and rarely discount my rate. Unless I happen to be close enough for ground transport, any work I take on will be remote - I do not take air transportation. ✈️❌

Editing and proofreading services for self-publishing authors of fantasy 🔮 dark fantasy 🗡️🩸 dystopian 💥 and horror 👻 | Comics and graphic novels 🗨️ | Board games and RPGs 🎲 ABOUT ME: Hi, I’m Kate (she/her). I’m based in London but I work with clients all over the world in UK, US, and Canadian English. I've built my career as a freelance editor and proofreader working with both traditional publishers (Osprey Games/Bloomsbury, Nobrow Publishing) and indie clients. I offer a range of editing services from developmental feedback and editorial assessments to a final proofread of your manuscript or board game components - so no matter what you're looking for from an editor, I can help! I’m an Advanced Professional Member of the UK's Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), and a Partner Member of the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi). I'm also a member of the Horror Writers Association and British Fantasy Society. Find out more about me on my website: kneditorial.com. REVIEWS: Rather than me telling you how I work with authors, why not hear directly from my other clients? "I can’t recommend Kate enough. She was quick, thorough, and she adapted to my narrator’s voice so that her suggestions never felt out of place. She provided me with all the feedback and tools I needed to clean up my manuscript. I can’t wait to work with her again on my next project!" "Hiring Kate as an editor was the best thing I could have done for my manuscript. She had an amazing attention to detail and understanding of the story. Furthermore, her comments explained why she suggested the changes she did and should help my writing process with future projects." "Kate is an excellent editor; timely, professional, and with fantastic feedback to any project. Her notes on my novel showed me story possibilities I had not considered, drove me to have a more dynamic cast of characters. Where I once felt like I was simply recounting the events of the story, Kate encouraged me to put myself in it, to ask deeper questions of the characters so I may find gems of truth hidden within the narrative. I absolutely cannot recommend her enough!" "TL;DR This is the editor you want and need." Other skills/areas of interest: French language, Portuguese language, UK and EU politics, travel, mental health and stress, time management, veganism.

For me, words are only the juice, the fruit cannot be spoken of. If you are looking for great words, words that echo far beyond the mind and linger within you, then the words must be only a by-product; a fragrance which emanates from some indescribable place. In other words, there are lots of technically good writers, but very few inspired ones. Which one am I? Both, I hope. But only you can find out. Writing has been my passion since I could pick up a pen. For many years this expressed itself primarily through music and lyrics. As I got older, however, I began to write stories, poems and essays. Over the last few years I have authored two books - fiction and non-fiction. My love of music has never waned and I continue to write, produce and perform my own songs. Although my love of writing lies in its creative freedom, I have a deep interest in style and structure. Rigour and pith should enhance poetic licence, not stifle it. I am always learning, always gathering new tools, and always a beginner. Writing is an extension of my life. My love of philosophy, meditation, spirituality and the essence of things provides a constant flow of creative energy. I spend a lot of time travelling with my girlfriend, two year old son and dog. I love surfing, cooking, and living as freely as possible. For better or worse, I fought formal education as though it was my mortal enemy. Life education, however, I embraced with wide-eyed wonder and still do. This, I feel, has allowed me to discover my own voice and unique knowledge base. I can help you or your project do the same - all we have to do is find that inner fruit and squeeze it.

With a passion for the written word and its ability to change the world through creativity and communication, Sasha sets out to bring the best in all future publications that she works on. This interest has driven her to study a BA Creative Writing and Publishing at Bath Spa University, UK. She is the Regulatory Technical Editor and Submissions Coordinator at Intertek Health Sciences Inc, a global leader in delivering expert scientific, toxicological, and regulatory services. She also runs her own editing consultancy, Ward Editing Consultancy, providing comprehensive editorial services to a variety of agencies, companies, and organisations. Some of the clients she has worked with include Lumore and Ace The Exam Ltd. Occasionally, Sasha’s work broadens to areas such as marketing, design, and by no means least, copywriting. Sasha has volunteered for commercial companies and non-for-profit organisations such as Bath Festivals, Fully Grown Ltd, and PYB Events. She has also contributed towards on-screen blogs including Dermascope Magazine and Jobs In Beauty. She is experienced with CMS, SEO, branding, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop as well as proficient in using Acrobat Pro proofreading markup tools and documentation and review tools in Microsoft Word, such as track changes, templates, and styles. Sasha is an Entry-Level Member of The Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), a professional regulatory body for editors and proofreaders. When she’s not editing, you’ll find her captivated by a nonfiction book on the genre of popular science or life writing, such as marine life, natural selection, or historic memoir. A favourite read of Sasha’s is Peter Godfrey-Smith’s Other Minds: The Octopus, the Sea and the Deep Origins of Consciousness for its fascinating insight into the mind and its origin.

I am an experienced academic writer and editor with a PhD in Sociology and more than 25 years of experience in interdisciplinary social science, philosophy and the arts. Through publishing books, academic journal articles, magazine articles, reviews and reports, and taught others to write, I have an in-depth, holistic understanding of the writing and publishing journey. I have served on editorial boards for major international publishing houses, academic and political journals, and grant-making organizations. In addition to editing doctoral and master's theses to a high standard, I have supervised 20 PhDs and EdDs and more than 40 master's degree students to successful completion. I also support the writing and editorial needs of social justice activists, organizers and non-governmental organizations. My philosophy of writing is holistic and socially engaged. This means that I am interested in helping you develop your writerly confidence and voice as well as your craft. When I edit your work, I not only make sure that your language is clear, correct and compelling but also that you have the tools to align it with principles of social, global and ecological justice. Working with me provides you with opportunities to learn more about (or delve into) the embodied, emotional and political dimensions of your thinking and writing practice in ways that can significantly improve the quality and impact of your work. I am especially interested in working with writers who are: - queer, trans, nonbinary and/or members of the diverse LGBTQIA2S+ universe - BIPOC artists/researchers navigating systemic inequities in academic publishing - neurodivergent thinkers/ communicators, and anyone writing in non-standard style - speakers of other languages writing in English and Anglophone publishing norms - interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary scholars defying genres boundaries - frustrated or unwell due to the inequities of the capitalist publishing complex - in social ecology, queer and trans studies, critical and decolonial theory, and education - feeling stuck, blocked or burned out in their creative process My services include: - 1-1 academic writing coaching and thematic tutorials - editing (developmental, copy editing, proofreading, referencing and formatting) - political writing audits (analyzing the equity implications of content, language, sourcing) Please get in touch if you'd like to work with me!
