Congratulations! You've completed your manuscript. Now what? Now it's time to edit! I am an editor with a focus on the Chicago Manual of Style. Whether you are in the developmental stage (developmental editing) or the final stage (proofreading), or even somewhere in between (line editing or copyediting), I can help! Allow me the opportunity to show you how I can help de-stress your writing process by reviewing your document's organization, growth, flow, pace, voice, clarity, consistency, and style. I work with books, magazines, blogs, and much more, preferably Word or Google document file types. You'll receive feedback inline and in a memo. My goal is to ensure that your voice shines throughout the pages. If you're not yet to the editing stage and just need someone to cheer you on and help you through some tough spots to finish it (book coach), I can help with that too! Connect with me and find out if my services are right for you!Developmental EditingLine EditingMicrosoft OfficeCopy EditingAdobe AcrobatMicrosoft WordChicago Manual of StyleBook EditingCreative WritingPDFEditing & ProofreadingEnglishProofreading - $35 hourly

Hello, my name is Jade Morstad, and I am a writer specializing in proofreading, editing, prose, and composition. Over the years, I’ve had a handful of supervisors who have drawn me into projects where they’ve felt that my “writing thing” may prove useful. This led to a range of challenges, including three training manuals, drafting the information found on our Municipal Court’s website, and writing and performing the script for an automated phone system. At the start of each project, I noticed a pattern emerging in the initial discussion and even the brainstorming sessions we had. A question would always rear its ugly head and was often met by an uneasy silence. “How do we actually say this?” The questions of what a project is and why it needs to be done are straightforward enough. They are easy to answer. It’s when the “how” rolls around that a strange case of nerves tends to follow. Suddenly, veterans at their jobs are hesitating and glancing around, waiting for someone else to speak first. This reluctance is completely understandable! I don’t know anyone who enjoys being put on the spot. Especially under the pressure of producing a mind-blowing idea on the fly. There’s a pause, an uncertainty, that their original thought or particular turn of phrase will suddenly be up for critique, or worse, rejection. In this, I find some fault in grammar teachers. The red penned Ghost of Corrected Essays Past should not be confused for the red pen of Editing today. Editing is not about finding “wrongness.” It is about potential. The truth is, all ideas are born in rough draft form, but their punch comes in the polish. How can we make it sleeker, more direct, clear, and precise? It can be tough, but it is through the editing and redrafting process that a good idea becomes a powerful message, no matter what format is being utilized. Every ad, email, office memo, social media post, newspaper article, and novel has a statement to make. It is a writer’s job to aid in the delivery of that statement. You know what you are wanting to say, the only question that remains is: How can I help you say it?Developmental EditingCopywritingGeneral TranscriptionSubtitlesWritingContent WritingLine EditingProofreadingEnglishFiction WritingCreative WritingEditing & Proofreading - $125 hourly
