For the past year I have been professionally editing novels, and for the last seven years, I have been editing the books of the authors I have become friends with over my writing journey. I have watched as first drafts have changed into completed manuscripts, and have come to realize I love helping them along that process. I love editing. And I would love to help you in whatever way you need, whether that's just a read through for grammar and syntax or detailed comments and thoughts on the concepts, characters, and plotline of your story. I am here to help you craft your book into everything it was meant to be - and I can't wait to see what that is.

If there's one thing I've learned in the several years I've been a freelancer on Upwork, it's that there is no limit to the work we can accomplish together! I value creativity and find motivation in the possibility of making new connections with authors, entrepreneurs, small business owners, and free thinkers. My mission is to bring order to the chaos that can be the creative writing process, and to increase the amount of high quality copy that is in circulation. As a writer, I excel at crafting articles, blog posts, and other copy that serves to inform, engage, and excite my readers. As a general editor and proofreader, I am passionate about ensuring only the highest quality writing makes it past the editing stage. I ensure this by conducting thorough line edits, correcting grammatical and structural issues, and providing useful commentary and feedback. Some of my more exciting work has included written projects for Chegg, ConsumerAffairs, 1-800-Flowers, and WattDoesItUse, as well as editing for EsriPress textbooks, high fantasy novels, and YA fiction. Whatever the nature of your project, I can provide quality writing, editing, and proofreading assistance that is dependable and affordable.

CREATIVE WRITING When a story is losing my interest, I always ask myself why. When it’s grabbing my interest by the throat with both hands and shaking until I can barely separate my world from that of the story, I ask myself the same: why? The question did not begin as a professional one, just as for me, writing did not begin as a career. I started out in the fantasy genre under the assumption that make-believe worlds are bound to be the most tantalizing. In search of the elixir of storytelling I devoured Tolkien, Rothfuss, Paolini, Sanderson, C.S. Lewis, Robert Jordan, George R.R. Martin, and the rest of their ilk. I was mesmerized but not satisfied, as I’m sure no good writer ever fully is. So I knocked down the boundaries of my literature and began plumbing new horizons. The quintessential twentieth-century masters slipped one by one beneath my belt: Kurt Vonnegut, Cormac McCarthy, John Steinbeck and George Orwell, along with a few more antiquated: Jane Austen, Emily & Charlotte Bronte. The lot of them were joined with bonhomie by several more recent luminaries, including Khaled Hosseini, who guided me more than anyone else not to the treasure at the end of my quest, but to the nature of my quest itself: I was in search of a good story. And I had been errant to believe it needed orcs or elves to make it engrossing. All you need between a book’s two covers is a human story. As for the rest, take it or leave it. Orcs or elves, spaceships or artificial intelligence, the Taliban or an atomic bomb—write what you please, but the only thing that will move anyone is a story about the human heart. This is what I aim to do with my writing: transport one soul into another soul and let them muddle one another with their fingerprints. Touch each other, truth to truth. That’s what books are. Tiny surgical incisions into the beating heart of another human being. I can write, edit and proofread the following: Novels (fiction & non-fiction) Personal development & self-help Spiritual & philosophical literature Memoirs & biographies Essays, articles & speeches LIFE & WELLNESS COACHING My studies into human psychology and patterns of healthy thinking also provide the launchpad for my work in life coaching, personal health, and emotional wellness. Traveling in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Africa has stimulated a rich and well-rounded insight into the wellbeing of people around the globe, letting me develop deeper reflections on the human experience and the psychological problems we face as people. As a personal health consultant, I focus my efforts on helping people break their lives down into pieces they're capable of analyzing. I coach them through the process of identifying their subconscious motives and voluntarily facing the obstacles that stand in the way of their search for meaning, career purpose, and relational success. I also address key external factors like exercise, diet, sleep, and alone time, and am more than happy to design personalized workout plans and help identify where a client's daily routine needs some improvement. I can provide direct coaching sessions, writing, or consultation in any of the following fields: - Personal development & self-help - Spirituality, philosophy & psychology - Life & career coaching - Meditation - Fitness Feel free to contact me if you want to talk over a project or flip through samples of my work! I am always genuine when evaluating a potential collaboration; I’ll tell you if I don’t think I’m a good fit for your project and always invite you to do likewise. I hope to hear from you! Blessings, Savannah Tate

I offer developmental editing, copyediting, and beta reading to writers and comic creators. These services fix grammar issues, strengthen weak plots, improve character development, and lead to a more satisfying story. Before editing fiction, I worked as a marketing associate, creating and editing copy, such as blogs, website pages, technical documentation, and marketing material. I have also taught as a TESOL teacher (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and focused on grammar, fluency, and vocabulary. I have a copyediting certificate from UC San Diego and an English degree with an emphasis in creative writing from California State University, Northridge. When possible, I take professional editing courses to improve my skills, such as “Editing Young Adult Fiction,” story structure, developmental editing, and comic proofreading courses. My professional work has been published in print and online, and I am a member of ACES: The Society for Editing.

I'm a successful short fiction writer currently working on my own first novel. I take pride in my investment in writers and their stories. My goal is to understand and support the project on its own terms while moving a work toward the author's ultimate goals, typically publication. I primarily offer developmental editing for fiction and have experience working with literary and YA fiction and several genres, including romance and science fiction. I have some training in comics. I'm a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association. I bring a broad range of real-world experience combined with extensive training in fiction and nonfiction writing. My patience, attention to detail, and curiosity allow me to engage with writing and explore its possibilities. I’m a good communicator. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy visiting my adult daughter, going to sporting events, reading novels and poetry, and listening to albums (of all genres) on my vintage turntable and receiver combo. I love to travel. And I write.
