I began my career in the Texas Army National Guard working as a technician on UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters and eventually became a door gunner then crew chief assisting with helicopter missions, departing military service as E-5/Sergeant. I enjoyed the military because the work was interesting and exciting, it gave me opportunities to grow in my leadership skills, and I was part of a fantastic unit (1-108th AV). Despite all this, I realized that I needed a more challenging and rewarding career than what I was able to pursue in the Army. While on a deployment to Kuwait and Iraq in 2018-2019, I concluded that a career as an electrical engineer was the best fit for me considering my capabilities, interests, and life goals, so I enrolled in community college upon my return and started classes in Spring of 2020. Despite the dual challenges of Covid-19 lockdowns and readjusting to school after a 4-year academic hiatus, I was able to graduate from UT Austin in Fall 2023. I studied electrical and computer engineering with a primary focus on real time and embedded systems, and secondary foci on software engineering, computer architecture, signal processing, and data science/AI. The part of my education that I enjoyed the most were my project assignments. My favorite projects were those where I got to do the high-level architecture of the design. The two that are foremost in my mind are a digital wireless walkie-talkie I made for an embedded systems class and the operating system I and a partner wrote for an RTOS class. The enjoyment I felt while examining and debating the trade-offs of various components, PCB layouts, data structures, algorithms, and time/space complexity with my team members motivated me to strive to eventually become an architect. Since it’s early in my career, my biggest goal right now is to learn as much as I can about the industry while simultaneously sharpening my technical skills as much as possible for the day that I eventually reach that goal. Outside of work, my hobbies include Rubik’s cube speed solving, marathons, and car restoration. For those who are interested, I solve a Rubik’s cube using full CFOP with personal best single of 8.91s, a Ao5 of 12.77s, Ao12 of 13.66s, and Ao100 of 14.65s. My 1st marathon was an extremely challenging trail race (Pandora's box of rox) and the 2nd was the 2024 Austin marathon with my PB of 5:03:22. Lastly, I’m currently working on restoring a 1971 Chevrolet El Camino doing mechanical work, bodywork, sheet metal fabrication, welding, painting, and eventually a full restomod.

Hi, My name is Cody Phipps and I am freelancer located in Austin, Tx. I am Electrical Engineer with a focus in power and control systems. While I attended Louisiana Tech University, I worked on many projects dealing with designing and printing PCBs. After started my career in transmission line studies, I quickly found out I wanted to develop electronics for my career. I started freelancing and evenutally started an LLC to chase my dreams as a product developer. Since then, I have developed over 80 products for many fields including medical, military/government and industrial. Products that I have develop include: - IoT and wirless capabilities (Wifi, BLE, Thread, LoRa, etc) - AC and DC power systems -Solar and alternate energy systems -Wearables -Many types of sensors - accelerators, temperature, humidity, etc In addtion to design, I also offer printed circuit board assembly and I have built a majority of my designs myself. I achieve this with my personal line that I have which is capable of building small run jobs (up to 500 units a week). I also have access to a larger line for much bigger manufacturing jobs. Here is the typical breakdown of what you would expect from my services: Research and Development: - Identify major components - Draw breadboard proof of concept block diagram - Build breadboard proof of concept - *See firmware Development Section Schematic Capture: - Draw symbols and footprints of components not in library already - Capture Power circuit - Capture MCU circuit - Capture peripheral circuits - Export Bill of materials Layout Design: - Determine board shape, constraints and layer count - Floor plan components - Draw power and ground planes - Trace Critical traces - Trace the rest of the nets - Run DRC - Draw Fabrication Drawing - Draw Assembly Drawing - Export Gerbers, Drills, OBD++, PnP, etc - Send Boards off to Fab - Order stencils, Components, etc Firmware Development: - Develop Firmware for POC - Add finishing touches to the firmware Build and Test: - Develop Test plan - Check in Parts - Assemble boards - Perform Testing - Write Product specification - Determine next steps I can give virtual tours of products I'm working on as well as give you five references to ones I developed products for and with. Thanks, Cody Phipps
