I have worked in several areas of the publishing realm, including newspaper copyediting, magazine writing, literary agency and publishing house internships, ghostwriting, freelance editing, and proofreading for a business and marketing research company. I've also worked with local authors on their novels for publication. I tend to work on a fixed-price basis instead of hourly for editing, and I work on an hourly basis for formatting. There is nothing more pleasing to me than a stack of (digital) paper filled with errors waiting for correction. I am especially interested in editing long-form works of fiction and memoir. If you need formatting for Kindle Direct Publishing, I can format your Word file and create the layout for your eBook (minus cover design) using Kindle Create. Need to "humanize" your AI content? I can do that, too. This would fall under line editing, and I can offer you a quote based on word count. Please note before contacting me that I prefer to communicate solely through Upwork messaging, and I do not do voice calls. Hello! I am a native English-speaking, former teacher with 24 years of experience in teaching Language Arts. My education includes bachelor degrees in both Education and Sociology. During my years of teaching, I was proud to see many of my students win local, regional, and state awards in writing. For several years, I participated as a judge in a regional Power of the Pen writing competition. One of my greatest accomplishments in the English field was in having a curriculum I wrote on music published in the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's professional syllabus. I have also recently finished editing and proofreading a novel series for a bestselling author and am currently working on his third series. I am very meticulous and precise and have a passion for the English language. My strengths are in identifying and correcting errors in the conventions of English as well as in sentence structure, grammar, content, flow, and character development. As a teacher, I found it extremely annoying to find errors in textbooks and in my recreational reading. I am eager to search for errors BEFORE a work is published, to enjoy the reading in the process, and to deliver a perfect manuscript to you! I thoroughly enjoy working with people on their particular needs, and I believe in maintaining consistent, timely communication with authors. My experience on Upwork has included editing and proofreading fiction and nonfiction books, workbooks, children's books, poetry, professional and legal documents, articles, and works translated from another language. I can assure you that I have many, many more hours of experience than show in my hourly-rated jobs on Upwork, as most of my projects have been contracted at a fixed rate. I am easy to get along with, have a sense of humor, and would be happy to work with you on whatever project you have which needs editing and/or proofreading! I am a Master of Arts (MA) Candidate in Arts Administration from The University of Akron. During my time in the Arts Administration program, I have worked in many areas regarding the arts where having high skills in writing is an absolute must. Previously, I was the Gallery Manager at Standing Rock Cultural Arts (SRCA) in Kent, Ohio, where I performed diverse administrative duties to support the galleries’ operations. Notably, at SRCA, a nonprofit cultural art center and gallery, I demonstrated exceptional skills in optimizing the gallery’s fundraising efforts by devising innovative approaches in response to the challenges posed by the post-COVID-19 environment. Through the Betterworld online fundraising platform, I successfully conducted an auction of artwork and items donated to SRCA. To secure the donated items, I liaised with various organizations in the Downtown Kent region, inviting them to support the gallery by contributing items for auction. I also volunteer my abilities to the Center for Applied Drama and Autism (CADA), where I serve as a Board Member. Following recent shifts in CADA’s organizational structure, I have taken on the responsibility of assisting the revitalization of the organization in the acquisition of funding. To this end, I have been actively engaged in researching potential foundations, businesses, and government organizations that offer grants that align with CADA’s mission. Working closely with the Board President and Business Manager, I have coordinated efforts to gather all the necessary information pertaining to the grants, ensuring that we submit competitive applications that have a strong chance of securing funding.
