I am a native English speaker from the US with a degree in Mandarin Chinese from George Mason University. After graduating in 2013, I started teaching English online part time for Rosetta Stone and since then I have added other teaching positions as part time jobs. The different ESL learning environments have utilized vastly different methods of instruction and allowed me to understand which ones are the most effective. I have also become TEFL certified in general ESL instruction as well as being certified to teach young learners. My love of language started while trying to learn Vietnamese so I could speak with a friend’s family members in their native language. Since those days in high school, I have gravitated toward other languages like Chinese and Spanish, but more so with my own native language, English. I also worked on developing curriculum and lesson plans for other teachers to use in their classrooms. This is where I really found my passion. Since I had already enjoyed creating things my whole life, combining the creative process with the nuances of the English language was a natural fit for me. At first, I focused on games and interactive activities to use in my own classroom. I used the medium of zoom meetings to allow my younger students to participate in things ranging from board games to roleplaying activities. Seeing the students excited to learn English was inspiring and kept me working on my craft even though I was not paid to do so. Recently I have started creating content for social media focused on explaining the English language. My English Profacer videos are animated and bring enough entertainment for even a native speaker to find something interesting. This is a project that I really enjoy and have poured a lot of time into. I really believe that it is worth every minute.
