After graduating from the Art Institute of Seattle, I embarked on a design journey focused on branding and marketing for small to mid-sized businesses. These early years instilled in me the values of craftsmanship and customer-centricity, which have remained central throughout my career. During a pivotal three-year period at Microsoft, I extended my skills into the digital sphere, contributing to pioneering web products like MSN, Investor, Money, and Expedia. This experience would later enable me to design much more sophisticated enterprise analytics tools and business solutions. My next challenge was at Amazon, where I played a pivotal role in overhauling the structure and identity of Amazon.com to help the fledgling online bookstore become the trillion-dollar retail giant it is today. This taught me to apply the power of design not just at the product level but at the level of services, businesses, and even larger structures. Following Amazon, I returned to Microsoft for a rewarding four-year tenure with a highly accomplished team. We developed innovative products and generated intellectual property, including a context-aware business process management tool, and I earned recognition on three significant patents. My subsequent eight years were spent as an independent design and strategy consultant for startups, two of which I joined long-term. At Gist, I led the design of a groundbreaking contact management and social CRM solution, eventually acquired by Research in Motion. Similarly, at CareZone, my leadership in designing innovative mobile health applications led to acquisition by Walmart. During this phase, I embraced agile methodologies and refined my facilitative leadership skills. To extend my impact, I co-directed UXanimal, a boutique design agency. Over three years, I led small design teams, delivering critical outcomes for clients like Amazon, Electronic Arts, Valant, and RootMetrics. This period enhanced my ability to communicate the value of design at all levels and allowed me to mentor junior designers. Subsequently, I relocated to Amsterdam for three enriching years of independent consulting, serving clients such as Toyota, Here.com, and AKQA. I helped Toyota establish a global design framework and guided Here.com in adopting value-based messaging. Beyond digital projects, I contributed to developing a human-centered vision for a large urban redevelopment project in Bielefeld, Germany. My time in Europe broadened my horizons, and I actively participated in Amsterdam UX leadership, delivering well-received talks on design practice. Returning to the Pacific Northwest, I joined the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Over two years, I collaborated on the foundation’s data and analytics solutions, streamlining processes and adding features like scenario forecasting and impact performance analytics. I also facilitated a comprehensive design system and volunteered to advance design literacy across the organization. Now, I'm actively seeking opportunities to apply my expertise to drive design-led innovation in alignment with value-driven goals. I'm open to both contract work and full-time roles. If you believe my skills and experiences could benefit your team and project, I welcome the opportunity to connect.Enterprise SoftwareUX WritingRapid PrototypingLeadership SkillsInnovation StrategyAI Content CreationUser StoriesService DesignAgile Software DevelopmentData Analytics & Visualization SoftwareCommunication DesignHuman-Centered DesignDesign & Usability ResearchProduct StrategyUX & UI Design - $100 hourly
