When it comes to editing, I generally think of authors as supplying the muscle and I, on the flip side, ensure the connective tissue is in place. A book is like a functioning body--everything has to work together to truly come alive! A solid editor is absolutely invaluable to the writing and publishing grind. They identify where a text needs revision and what parts are working harmoniously. Thinking an in-house publishing editor, or online editing tool, is enough to catch any mistakes in a book is a mistake in itself. Hiring an independent editor ensures that the quality of your book will be rock solid before it hits the physical or digital bookshelves of the world. My work over the years has comprised editing: -Novel-length books (fiction & non-fiction) -Essays, poems, novellas, and short stories -Training/ lesson plans for private and government organizations ...as well as doing beta reads for authors and the film industry. Guiding new or experienced writers to truly discover their voice and flesh out their stories is an absolute joy. Everybody has an interesting story to bring to the table--they sometimes just need help to polish and piece it together. My background in writing and editing, plus my experience as a frontline worker, means I bring a unique perspective to the table. Whether you are looking to clean-up stilted dialogue or ensure the accuracy of scientific details or just figure out where to begin, I've got you covered!Fiction WritingBeta ReadingBook SummaryCoachingGrammar & Syntax ReviewShort StoryStorytellingChildren's WritingMemoir WritingCreative WritingDevelopmental EditingPoetryStory DevelopmentEditing & Proofreading - $100 hourly

I have several years of writing experience in everything from articles and web content to screenplays for TV and film. For the last 9 years I've been writing scripts for an entertainment and technology based news show which airs on AMC and ION. I write segments highlighting different products and services, usually tech related. Otherwise I'm a full-time freelance writer with thousands of articles and web content posted online. I tend to add a certain amount of humor to my writing which results in engaging content. Though, upon request by the client, I can write in a more "dry" style if needed. I have a rigorous work ethic and fast turnaround rate. With my high communication level I can work to fulfill a client's needs and then some. I write stories. Memoirs, autobiographies, true stories--I've ghostwritten and published over four dozen, including several bestsellers and award recipients. I've also penned non-fiction in most of its genres, including self-help, inspirational, how-to, political, and historical. My goal is always the same: take your concepts and develop them into the most precise, compelling, and professional form possible. I take you from "idea" to "published" guiding you every step of the way. While I can't provide an extensive list of books I've written (we ghosts tend to remain unseen), I can share first-chapter samples of some of those works upon request. Hope to hear from you soon. What is a story? Instantly, that question separates storyteller Nathan Mertz from the sea of other writers. Mertz ponders and understands the foundational aspects of storytelling and his nuanced knowledge of the aspects, layers, and styles of storytelling are his greatest skill. Born in 2005, I wrote my first novels in the 2010s one at a time, one per year, in the month of November. Since being introduced to writing, telling stories has aroused passion and drive in me. It is bliss. In life, there are no moments that compare to those that become stories. Everything I do is a story, everything I think, everything I write. I perceive my life through the lens of a story. My character arc ranges from writing a novel every November to being a star actor and working tech at stage performances to video editing and content creation. The stories don't end there. In addition to writing, acting, and creating content, I am a film director. In the end, I couldn't resist the allure of words. After over five years (ages 10-17) focusing on other types of storytelling, the magic of the written word charmed me again. Since I restarted writing, I've harnessed skills that I've picked up from the other experiences to craft the most compelling, intriguing, and profound pieces you're likely to read. That brief life synopsis ought to prove to you that I am, at heart, a storyteller; writing is merely my method. Since we're on that topic, what do I write? Simply put, I write stories. I think you've figured that out by now. Although I can write any type of story, I love character-driven narratives. In my eyes, they are the most realistic and the most timeless. Complementing my skills in fiction, I also write historical biographies of accomplished figures. My reasoning behind the historical research says that there is no story more realistic than a real one. By doing the research on accomplished historical figures, I threefold learn history, grasp stories and character on a deeper level, and am able to publish work as well - all of those biographies are free to read if you click the link in my portfolio or search "Journeys are Gray and Gold" on Substack. --- EXPERIENCE (Not on Upwork) I have written several full-length novels as a younger child and am currently working on an opus that I intend to publish. I also work in historical biographies. So far, I have done detailed biographies of Frida Kahlo, Jacques Cousteau, and Richard Feynman. I usually write about one biography per week. As regards screenplays, I have worked on many screenplays. Most of them are short films. I have written four short films, one of which was produced, and have three feature films in the first draft stage. --- SKILLS -Storytelling -Character writing -Symbolism -Story consulting -Communication -Creative writing -Essay writing -Writing quotable dialogue --- Q&A -You're very young. How do I know it's worth the risk? I know I'm a very young professional writer, but I have a legitimate lifetime in storytelling. Furthermore, I'm happy to offer a satisfaction guarantee. -What types of stories are your best skills in? I specialize in character-driven stories. I believe that a purpose of writing is to expose the human condition, not romanticize it, so I excel in writing realistic, gritty characters with complex flaws and strengths.Fiction WritingWritingTopic ResearchNarrativeFictionLiterary FictionScreenwritingEssayStory WritingEssay WritingScriptwritingCreative WritingStorytelling - $40 hourly

👩🏼💻 Are you a storyteller with an awesome idea for a novel or screenplay, but you’re struggling to get it out of your head? Too many ideas and not enough time? I've helped lots of screenwriters and novelists develop, refine, improve, or simply finish their stories, and I can help you too. 🧐 Or maybe you're a subject matter expert who's super good at what you do, and you want to build your visibility and authority with a non-fiction book. I've worked with professionals just like you to organize their unique experiences and expertise into valuable books that inspire new audiences. 👩🏼🎓 Or you might offer training programs, and you need to turn best practices into teaching scenarios that keep learners focused and engaged. I've created hundreds of narratives and scenarios for clients like Turo, CareAcademy, McKinney-Vento, the UAE government's New Media Academy, Bedrock Financial, Market Motive, and Simplilearn. 🥳 Let's talk about what you're trying to achieve, what's standing in your way, and how I can help you get around the roadblocks to share your vision and value with the world. PROCESS ⚔️ My process for non-fiction books, novels, and script writing is rooted in "character-driven storytelling" -- we'll define who your "hero" is (your reader, learner, or main character), what they want or need to accomplish, what's standing in their way, what they need to do to achieve their goals, and how their life will be changed when they succeed. TESTIMONIALS “Forgive this moment of pride, but I actually am proud of this. Chip Street, did I thank you enough for your wisdom and talent?” -- John Marshall, Author, “Free Is Bad” “This is a masterpiece. It looks perfect. I would never have thought to add that extra bit. Genius! Can’t thank you enough!” -- CM, Founder, Brandafy, Modern Income Mastery “We wouldn’t be the company we are without your work. Hugely grateful for your contributions!” -- Mindy Wallis, Instructional Designer, Care Academy “Chip was a pleasure to work with! Always timely, quick to respond, and extremely detailed.” -- Rachel Siu, Marketing Program Manager, Turo Canada “Chip follows instructions with so little effort from me. He goes above and beyond and can’t help but think deeply and analyze every project he is working on. He will be an invaluable resource for any project you need assistance on. Definitely hire this person for your endeavors, you won’t be sorry!” -- Jennifer Ong, Bedrock Financial “We had a fantastic experience working with Chip and would recommend him enthusiastically. He is an imaginative writer, a clear communicator, and a proactive teammate. He consistently delivered high quality work on time, and he incorporated feedback quickly and effectively. I hope to work with him again on future projects!” -- Elizabeth Slavitt, Founder, Shakespeers “Chip takes his kid gloves off and delivers honest, on point and actionable notes. My scripts would not in the shape they are without his professional input and insightful feedback. Because of Chip’s professional script feedback, my entire approach to writing now goes to 11, not just my screenplay. Thanks Chip!” -- Jeff Palmer, Writer/Producer/Director; Screenwriting Adjunct Professor, Fitchburg State University; Video Production Adjunct Instructor, Northern Essex Community College “Chip Street is a wonderful and inventive writer. He knows how to create unique stories and keep them moving in a way that captivates the reader.” -- John Rainey, Author: “You Talkin’ to Me? How to Write Great Dialogue” and “Screenwriting Style That Sizzles: A Primer For Polishing” — Voted #1 Script Consultant by Creative Screenwriting “The best history of the web that I’ve read…” -- Andreas Ramos, Professor, Author, Senior Fellow @ Silicon Valley Research Institute “I put it in the same category as ‘The Social Dilemma‘ on Netflix. Highly recommended.” -- David Prinzing, CTO Zicasso “I recently consulted with Chip on my psychological thriller screenplay and it was by far the best move I could’ve ever made. What I received far exceeded my expectations.” -- Jeff Warrick, Screenwriter, Producer, IgniteProductions “I’m so grateful for the feedback on the script – I don’t think it would have gotten to a better place on its own, regardless of how hard I tried. I spent a full year doing a re-write based on your notes, which I hope resulted in a better story. Thank you!” -- Jason Nicholson, Normal Network Film & Animation “I just read your comments. I am a creative writer looking to present my best strengths and create high-quality fiction. In my senior year of high school, I discovered that writing was my passion entirely by accident. I primarily write short stories and novels but occasionally challenge myself with Flash Fiction. I would have to say that brainstorming and outlining a story, and watching it come together, is one of my favorite parts of writing novels. I have self-published three short stories in three different anthologies with a Creative Writing group based on Scribophile. If interested, you can find these works on Amazon by searching for J.L. Bernard. I will also include samples with my proposal. I'm only interested in creating well-thought-out, believable story worlds that capture the reader's attention and have them turn each page with excitement. I admit that can be difficult at times, but that's part of the challenge and enjoyment in writing fiction. I typically base my stories around Young Adult characters. My writing focuses on these story genres: -Science Fiction -Fantasy -Paranormal -Dystopian I work hard and always strive to improve my craft; my work is thoroughly edited and professional.Fiction WritingUS English DialectBlog WritingProofreadingWebsite ContentFact-CheckingSearch Engine OptimizationContent WritingEditing & ProofreadingMicrosoft WordBlog ContentShort Story WritingCreative Writing - $27 hourly

Beta Reader | Creative Strategy | Storytelling | Creative Writer I am a professional editor, ghostwriter, and beta reader, specializing in the mystery and thriller genres. I have written three mystery-thriller novels and four screenplays in this category. Veteran creative pro with international ad agency experience as a creative director. Skilled at developing multiplatform creative solutions. As a former advertising agency creative director, I know– and you know, that the core motivator for someone to act is... they have to believe. This is not simple willing suspension or verisimilitude we are talking about. Your audience, that one person reading your story, has to identify with and care about a character, an idea, a group of people. That's why a great mystery-thriller story, a quest for truth, is built upon compelling characters with a life and death problem to solve. This genre has an intellectual component. It reflects the perpetual quest for truth, the endeavor to navigate through the deceptions, falsehoods, and diversions created by the mastermind criminal. The finest detective tales do more than just arrange the evidence of the crime; they also construct a complex veil of illusion to deceive both the detective and the viewers. Your job is to construct a narrative that highlights the needs of the detective, illuminate his/her back story, and provide a way forward to solve the crime, with decisions from your protagonist that propel the narrative drive forward, until there is finally a moral choice to be made, that brings us to a thrilling climax. I will read your story, novella, or novel and within a few days, send you a detailed report with actionable advice and constructive feedback. You will receive clear, cogent ideas that you can use immediately. I'll guide you on how to develop the characters, plot, pace, structure, tone, clarity, and especially narrative drive, the most important aspect of a mystery-thriller.
