I’ve been a writer and storyteller my whole life. I started reading when I was 4 years old and never looked back. As a kid, I used to make my own comics. I wrote my first picture book, The Ginger Whale, in middle school. As a teenager, I had several poems and stories published. I started acting. At Wellesley College, I majored in both English and Theatre Arts, and completed several creative writing courses. While I worked at the LEGO Store, my storytelling and marketing towards kids was primarily verbal or visual, but I still had plenty of opportunities to be creative. In the following years, I mostly stuck to corporate writing: briefings and marketing messages for a congressional primary campaign; documentation, analysis, and internal communications for a national recruiting company. More recently, I've been doing technical writing, story writing, and game design for tabletop roleplaying game supplements. Since July 2020, I have been writing and editing scripts, stories, and cutscenes for Duolingo ABC, the award-winning educational app aimed at kids ages 3-8. This literacy app is illustrated and fully voiced. I have been involved in every step of the content creation process, including: developing new story formats, guidelines, and game narratives; casting and directing voice actors; and testing the app before release. I have a unique combination of literary, theatrical, and game dev experience that will help bring your next creative project to life! Copywriting Portfolio: clippings.me/LindsaySlattery Narrative Design Portfolio: clippings.me/Slattery-Narrative BOGO: I'm a copywriter with five years of proven creative marketing (including managerial) experience—AND a budding narrative designer with a passion for/ strong understanding of branching stories. A few cool facts about me and my writing career: I once wrote a speech for the President of Harvard University. I also wrote a Christmas card to the Pope from a personal friend. And of course, I wrote, produced, and screened an extremely low budget, feature length sci-fi film. I am the unofficial world record holder of an arcade game from 1980 called Space Zap that no one has ever heard of. I am perpetually fascinated by the power of the written word, and forever upping my game as a marketing and fiction writer. Hard skills include process creation, digital/ print copywriting, proofreading/ copy editing, screenwriting, branching narrative, empathetic leadership, and beyond. Soft skills include being a little weird but loveable from day one, transparent when it matters, and extremely approachable. I am enthusiastically open to freelance copywriting, journalism, and game writing work. While I'm currently lucky enough to be employed in games full time, I'm trying to send my little one to a Pre-K in September and it ain't cheap! Top Skills: QA Testing Documentation Test Writing Issue Logging Web Automation Experience: Vicarious Visions: I was a quality assurance tester on the game Skylanders: Superchargers. With this project, the time between milestones was longer. This allowed me to develop my testing skills by finding more obscure bugs that could have been lost in a smaller time frame. Epic Games: I was a tester on the game Paragon. During this project, the team had a weekly milestone, this helped develop my testing skills by teaching me how to prioritize issues for a live game setting. It also taught me how to work within a deadline. My name is Alex Belanger, and I bring 7 years of experience as a Systems Engineer and UX Designer/Researcher. With a strong analytical mindset and an eye for detail, I am passionate about creating intuitive, functional systems that elevate the user experience. I began my career with a background in Digital Arts and Sciences, initially pursuing a path in game design. However, upon joining General Dynamics, my focus shifted to Systems Engineering, where I worked on weapon interfaces and tested both front-end and back-end components. This role helped me develop a deep understanding of complex systems and how users interact with them. As I progressed in Systems Engineering, I realized my true interest was in improving user interfaces-designing them to be both functional and accessible while meeting the diverse needs of our clients. I became increasingly focused on developing better systems, writing more efficient tests, and gathering meaningful feedback. My goal has always been to create solutions that not only work seamlessly but also bring joy to the end-user. Seeking new challenges, I transitioned into UX design through the General Assembly, blending my technical expertise with my creative background in digital arts. UX design allows me to combine my love of strategic system development with a passion for improving people's lives through thoughtful, user-centered products.Game DesignUser Interface DesignPrototypingAgile Project ManagementGitHubC++Game MechanicsFigmaUX ResearchUX WireframeUX & UI DesignUX & UIDesign & Usability ResearchUsability TestingProduct Design - $25 hourly
