As a freelancer, I'm primarily here to round out my full-stack development and software architecture design skills for my own projects currently in progress (without losing the house). I am a focused autodidact and polymath who would love to take on your strangest, most complex problems. If I run into a problem outside my current skill set, I will learn it and implement it without endangering timelines or upsetting workflow. I understand that the world of academic scientific software development is very different from this one, with different considerations, software environments, pace, and communication expectations, but the publish or perish culture of scientific research has taught me to work under a deadline and I do adapt quickly. Although I'm primarily here to expand my skill set in specific directions, if you would like to approach me for work, I'm also comfortable designing curricula, giving presentations, workshops and lectures, and writing, whether scientific or creative. More generally, I'm a bit of a lot of things. I was a fisherman, a baker, a masseur, and a bookstore clerk before pursuing higher education. At university and in graduate school I intentionally worked in a diverse array of research projects, including protein purification, gene modification, instrumental analysis, molecular quantum mechanics, and most recently open-source software design for the implementation of AI/ML techniques in biomolecular modeling as a postdoc at Virginia Tech. My graduate work in the research group of Dr. David A. Dixon studying computational electronic structure modelling of main group, transition metal, and f-shell element containing systems. As an undergrad I studied biochemistry and math (minor), and did my senior project in organic synthesis. I took the path I did because in my mind that there is only one branch of chemistry, and that moving forward in research today requires not only interdisciplinary cooperation, but project leaders with a true interdisciplinary understanding. Beyond this, as personal interests I am pursuing the modelling and modification of metabolic pathways for possible environmental, medical and material applications, bio/cheminformatic algorithms in python, using abstract mathematics to develop novel modeling or prediction methods for chemical and biomolecular systems, and science education/popular scientific literacy. I'd also really like to write a book.Genetic EngineeringBiochemistryEducationUser ExperienceWeb DesignDjangoScientific ResearchScientific ComputationMachine LearningConcept DesignSoftware Architecture & DesignFull-Stack DevelopmentPython - $60 hourly
