Artist (photographer and filmmaker) with a proven track record of writing grants to fund my own work. I’ve brought in over $60k in grants for my projects, and I’ve recently started helping others with their grant applications. I’m known for being detail oriented, I enjoy making spreadsheets, and I love helping others get funding for their creative projects. I’ve spent my entire career working with artists, working at non-profits, and teaching. I enjoy being part of the process that helps artists make new work and allows institutions to present engaging exhibitions and programs. I’m also a consultant on film and art projects that screen at prestigious venues around the world. More about my background: • I'm currently working with/mentoring several local artists to help them apply for their first grants. • For over 17 years I worked in a residency program for filmmakers at the Wexner Center for Arts. I worked closely with artists from around the world on a day-to-day basis to help them complete and to give feedback on their projects. I also oversaw the creation of an archive of this program where I cataloged information about over 600 projects by over 400 artists spanning nearly 30 years. While at the Wex, I supplied concrete information to support and improve grant applications, reviewed artist proposals as needed, and I wrote about artists and their residency work for publications and for their website. I also worked closely with staff members including curators, fundraisers, graphic designers, and web developers. • I’ve worked with dozens of visual artists and filmmakers as an editor on their projects, and enjoy talking to artists about their work in progress. Filmmakers and artists I’ve worked with include Jennifer Reeder, Guy Maddin, Sadie Benning, Lucy Raven, Michael Robinson, Andrea Fraser, and Josiah McElheny. Films I’ve edited have screened at prestigious film festivals (Sundance, Tribeca, and Fantastic Fest), streamed online (Criterion Channel, Hulu, Shudder, Amazon Prime), and been selected as Vimeo Staff Picks. Projects I’ve consulted on have premiered at SxSW, the Berlin Film Festival, in the Whitney Biennial, and at the DIA Chelsea. • I’ve taught photography and film at the undergraduate level. At the graduate level I taught an interdisciplinary critique class and led seminars on grant writing. I’ve also mentored students in MFA programs across the country. • I’ve served as a juror for galleries, exhibitions, and film festivals including Roy G. Biv Gallery, Image Ohio, Slamdance, and the Chicago Underground Film Festival. • I’m a four time recipient of the Ohio Arts Council’s Individual Excellence Award (which is highly competitive). I was awarded a fellowship to the inaugural Shudder Labs and applications for my projects have made it to the final round of Creative Capital. I’ve also received numerous grants from the Greater Columbus Arts Council, including a recent grant which was evaluated by members of the community.Grant Writing
