The payment was a total joke, but the teachers and knowledge acquired was invaluable. I started my own business in 2000 from scratch, and survived selling assembled PCs and doing tech support for over a decade. With a few casual approaches to what today is called 'FOSS', I had the real crush with it in 2007. More as hobby than something profitable, I tinkered around with it and learned a lot; while busy in several, different jobs. I got into what was called 'Freelancing' in 2016, and hit the jackpot in 2019 with a job which had future, plus a good employer that paid me good. Then, ‘Corona-chan’ came up to mess up everything again. Job included. Later on, I found my current main job at Upwork in 2021 by mere chance, and since then, in commitment with it. Still attend requests from good old clients, though. A German client once said to me: «Your spoken English is excellent, for German standards» [About my main Job]: Currently, I work remotely as main SysAdmin for a Germany based development software company, keeping on my charge an on-prem infrastructure composed of a few dozens of devices that englobe servers, switches, routers, dockerized/virtualized services, monitoring and other related artifacts. We have had intense times together. One day in Feb, 2022, without previous warning, the datacenter got in the middle of a war zone. I had to quickly migrate the entire infrastructure data to the cloud. No preparations, no schedules or timetables. It took me a week with little sleep to migrate everything to a totally different environment, and improvise both a cluster and a network topology, everything on the crazy run. The zone was under constant risk of bombing. I didn't know by then, but the on-site staff could extract the hardware, put it save, and sent it across 2 countries, before to be re-aconditioned and re-assembled (it didn’t arrive in good shape) into a new datacenter, several months later. No need to tell you who was in charge to migrate everything back, but that was the easiest part compared with the struggles of a SysAdmin working under insane pressure. Periodically, they ask for implementing everything they need running for their work, or provide support for the different issues they could have. More than once, such requirements has been very unique and ‘near-impossible’ to accomplish. I started to notice I came out with a solution, no matter how I argued against, believing it was ‘out of my skills’. Everything is running pretty fine at there now. They added more servers and put water cooling system. My virtual presence, although required, doesn't need to be constant anymore. All critical services and tasks run automatically and I receive alerts when something goes bad. Due to this, I'm starting to have spare time that I would like invest into one-time projects, jobs involving occasional consultancy, or tasks related with my experience up to, say, 25-30 hours per month.
