Background/Experience: Legal Practice/Experience: I am a senior lawyer, licensed in Washington, DC, Maryland, the United States District Court for the Districts of Columbia and Maryland and the United States Supreme Court. I have over 17 years of experience in the areas of insurance defense (general liability, medical malpractice, employment litigation, security cases, construction, automobile liability), employment (litigation and administrative actions), risk assessment/analysis, intellectual property, and insurance coverage. During the course of my legal practice, I tried to verdict numerous matters (jury trials and bench trials), as well as handled matters on appeal. I left the full time practice of law following the death of my daughter as a result of a pediatric brain tumor. Focussing on childhood cancer advocacy work, I became fully involved in legislative policy work, regulatory analysis and research funding. Nonprofit: I am currently the executive director of a traditional nonprofit organization (50% FTE), and am involved in several other organizations in different capacities. I have prepared nonprofit IRS filings, organizational and operational documents, fundraising plans, strategic development plans, board recruitment plans, grant management (research and preparation) and generally been involved in all aspects of nonprofit operations. I have sat on the board of directors of two organizations. I have received several awards in recognition for my accomplishments in the nonprofit world. I have been directly responsible for or helped to raise well over $1,500,000. I have also been involved in several technology start ups and venture advocacy endeavors. Writing/Speaking: In addition, since leaving the full time practice of law I have published and blogged frequently in numerous media outlets and medium, have been an invited speaker and presenter at numerous conferences and symposiums and have successfully lobbied members of Congress for the passage of legislation. These platforms include: Cancer Knowledge Network, Huffington Post, invited to submit pieces to numerous other publications.
