I write to make a difference—from helping communities heal through writing obituaries as a journalist to bridging the gap between patients and clinicians as a copywriter, and to creating clear documentation to ensure personnel perform their work safely as a technical writer—I believe everyone should have access to information necessary to make informed decisions about their lives. I have over 7 years of experience in writing, content creation, and management including AP style journalism, APA style copywriting, technical writing, website and document management, and project management. My content creation experience spreads across long-form (100+ page) safety documents, short-form social and email media copy, HTML-coded, SEO-optimized website copy, and much more! In my free time, I love to play rugby, travel, hike, practice mixology, watch Seattle Reign soccer games, and play guitar (very badly). I am an accomplished educator, from a long line of educators - who tried their absolute hardest to NOT become an educator. In fact, I tried SO hard to break the mold... that I originally majored in English with a focus in Writing and Communications. Out of college, I became a travel writer, working for local southern publications - covering a variety of destinations, restaurants, and live events - selling The Southern Dream. Writing is my passion, and travel is my hobby... so naturally the next step was to become an educator, right? I know, it confused me at first, too. I love writing, but I knew that I was missing the mark in making a difference in the world. This was something I knew my words could impact, but it was a further stretch to make a notable change. I woke up one morning and decided this was my path - I obtained my Master's Degree in Teaching and began my career working for the Department of Defense Education Activity in Beaufort, SC. Working with the children of the men and women who selflessly serve our country was a solid reminder that this was the path I was intended to take. They say those who can't do, teach. I say that age old adage is completely untrue. Who knew that my day job would morph into an atmosphere where I am able to not only participate in my passion of reading and writing - but where I also am able to ignite the spark and love of reading and writing in children of all ages. I get paid to nerd out about books, encourage the exploration and advancement of ideas, and have some of the most thought provoking discussions. In my professional career as a highly qualified educator I have achieved National Board Certification, held various leadership roles as they relate to reading and writing, obtained linguistics certifications, and most notably worked in a Dual Language program - harnessing the love of the English language in Bilingual learners as they simultaneously trek the path of biliterate education. Most recently, I am working as a CTE teacher who guides students into the world of graphic design, content creation, and varying other career paths. As a Board Certified Educator, I have designed curriculum for both secondary and beyond as they relate to college and career, and more specifically the path they take in the world of CTE. And I am even able to fit in time to travel - hobbies are important, you know. Ultimately - those who CAN do, absolutely should teach. The world needs us.Journalism WritingCopywritingSocial Media ManagementGoogle SlidesEditing & ProofreadingGhostwritingTravel WritingGeneral TranscriptionEducation PresentationCanvaBlog WritingSearch Engine OptimizationEducational TechnologyTravel & Hospitality - $35 hourly
