Relevant subjects included: - Sound Theory - A broad subject including, but not limited to, the study of acoustics in the typical human range of hearing (20Hz-20KHz); signal processing, and the tools with which to do so (Compression, EQ, Reverb, Delay, to name a few) - Sound Practical - Learning basic to advanced signal flow (how sound is converted from the source to being reproduced via speakers); Microphone selection and placement; recording and monitoring environments and their acoustic treatment. - Music Theory - The learning of scales, keys, chords, and chord progression. - Golden Ear - ear-training. This includes teaching your ears to distinguish between different instruments in a mix and to aurally isolate any sound in a recording for critical listening. Learning what different frequencies and waveforms sound like; to identify potential problem areas in a recording or mix. Experience: Sound Engineer | Freelance | January 2005 - Current Audio restoration/cleaning: I've applied this skill to the removal of unwanted sounds from a recording (for example: Hiss, hum, wind, mouth clicks and breath noises) to produce a superior, more professional product. Music/Audio Mixing: I've worked on quite a few released songs (and hundreds more unreleased ones) creating a great sounding tonal balance between multiple sounds, and making sure that each sound lives in its own space without being drowned out. The result is always cleaner, more polished sounding audio. Sound Recreation: I have created sounds from the ground up with the end goal of sounding like a sound in any given song. Music/Audio Mastering: I've mastered numerous songs, during which I make sure the final product will sound loud and tonally balanced across as many playback systems as possible. Sound Design: I have experience creating unique sound effects and soundscapes for video games, mobile games, film, advertisements, and even tabletop games in order to enhance the experience. Loop Making: I create seamless loops of anything from electronic drum beats to ambient noise for musicians, artists or documentaries, saving valuable time for the client. Jingle Creation: These are Sounds I have designed aimed at enhancing a brand or idea. Song/Audio feedback: Offering constructive feedback on where a mix needs work, and positive reinforcement on where a mix sounds great. Recording Advice: I've given out professional advice on: minimizing noise in a recording; sound source proximity from the microphone; microphone placement. Voiceover: I have recorded a voiceover for a documentary, intro's and outro's for podcasts, and a pre-recorded voice message system for telephone calls. DAW's: I have extensive experience in Cubase. Collaborations: I have collaborated with local artists, as well as Universal Music signed artists to produce original songs as well as remixes.
