In May 2020, I graduated from Westminster College with a bachelor's degree in English Literature where I earned an accumulative GPA of 3.95 and was initiated into Latin Honors as well as Sigma Tau Delta, an English honors society. As such, I possess the necessary skills to identify any grammatical or spelling errors and fix awkward sentence structures for multiple areas of writing. I also understand the importance of a strong working relationship and am therefore dedicated to providing my clients with a quality experience.

Do you want to turn your idea into the best novel possible? Put that idea in the hands of an expert. I am the author of over 100 novels with 11 traditionally published books (Random House, Sourcebooks, Harlequin). I am experienced in writing in all fiction for all ages (adult, young adult, mid-grade, and children's) and most genres (thriller, fantasy, dystopian, mystery, steamy romance, etc). I've been nominated for an RWA RITA in YA fiction, and my books have garnered rave and starred reviews from the major outlets. My specialty is ghostwriting novels. I've worked with several NYT and USAT bestselling authors to help them fill out their stable of self-published titles, and many of those books have become USAT or Amazon bestsellers. Several of my clients have secured agents and book deals. I pride myself on getting "your" style and seamlessly adapting to it. I can write like Nora Roberts or Stephen King. Whatever your style, I can pull it off. I work quickly and can usually finish a GOOD 50k-word novel in 1 month, based on your outline. If you are struggling to get traditionally published, I can help! Wondering if you have to sell your soul to attract an agent? Let me take a look at your query letter or book and give you an honest assessment as to why agents have passed you by. Written yourself into a corner? I am a born plot-whisperer who loves to brainstorm and help you find your way out. I offer coaching services, including full-novel critiques and developmental edits, as well as query critiques and career advice. I am proud that I have my name in the acknowledgments of dozens of traditionally published novels, and I would consider it an honor to help you reach your dream of publishing yours. The last thing you need to know about me is that I'm not a diva. This is business, and I don't deal in "special." When you contract with me, you can rest assured I will deliver what you want, when you want it. I can't wait to work with you! Don't take my word for it! Listen to what the professionals have had to say about my work! "Fantastically Creepy Psychological Horror." -- Booklist "A bloody, wonderfully creepy scare ride." -- Kirkus "With a wink and a nod to Stephen King's THE SHINING, Balog provides a shocker for the young adult crowd." -- VOYA, Starred Review "Like a PG-13 version of Gone Girl. A page-turner that will keep readers riveted, this is a treat for mystery fans and will keep readers guessing right up until the end." -- Kirkus "Twisted, engrossing."-- Kirkus "This first-rate thriller delivers everything a thriller should."-- VOYA "Suspense, believable characters, and an imaginative twist on a ghost story/romance make for a lovely read." -- Kirkus "An interesting, quick-paced, and compelling paranormal romance." -- School Library Journal "Masterfully paced, the tension builds to greater and greater heights. Just when the reader can barely stand it, a series of incredible plot twists bring the tale to an ambiguous conclusion that will leave readers begging for a sequel. " - School Library Connection “Full of suspense, romance, and mystery, this is a thrilling read that will appeal to fans of dystopian adventures.” – VOYA “An atmospheric, uneasy tale of survival.” – Kirkus

I have been telling stories consistently since I was performing puppet shows in the living room as a kid. While my puppet friends and I have parted ways, I still cannot stop myself from seeking out stories and comedy - whether that's in everyday conversations or in my writing. In 2012 I began working on my own personal humor blog satirizing culture, politics, and myself. Working with kids from 2016 to 2019 also gave me an insight into young minds, helping me develop my own sense of creativity and imagination. While studying to get my degree in Writing from Eastern University, I discovered my passion for collaboration as editor-in-chief of Inklings, the college literary magazine. I also had the opportunity to write several short plays alongside the actors that would be performing in them, which was a valuable lesson in learning how to write for and with other people. I am constantly using this skill as a freelancer, balancing my own creative voice with the needs of my clients. My favorite projects have been the children's books, middle grade books, and young adult novels that I have ghostwritten. However, I can write for any age, and have written many genres, from humor, to science fiction, to fantasy, and thriller. For me, the most rewarding aspect of writing is helping others find their voices through believable characters and intriguing plots. This is not the only way to tell a story, though, as I have also helped create various funny scripts for YouTube, the stage, and other types of media. Is your story already written, you just need someone else to take a look and suggest improvements? I can edit it as well, telling you the hard truths while sticking to your vision. If you have a story you'd like to tell, feel free to reach out and I'd love to discuss how I can help. As an editor, I've worked with authors from all over the world, and am currently a freelance editor with Indigo River Publishing based in Pensacola, Florida. With Indigo River, I work as an editor and as an author coach, communicating with writers to help make sure their books are as perfect as they can be - all while sticking with their original visions. I can write at a fixed rate of $0.20 per word (for books of 10,000+ words) or $0.22 per word (for books below 10,000 words). My editing rate is around $0.11 per word, depending on how extensive the edits need to be. I can work on hourly projects too, and I estimate being able to write between 400-800 words per hour and edit between 800-1,600 words per hour.

Transparently, I’m a full-time mom of two crazy wonderful little boys. My goal for my UpWork account right now is to use it part time to stay financially afloat. I’ll only apply for/accept a job that meets these criteria: 1. I have an interest in it. 2. I feel I have the time and skill set to complete the job with excellence. My passion prior to children was for writing poetry and young adult romances. After publishing five books, I turned to UpWork to launch an editing career. I worked an office job for a while with a very small company. I did anything and everything from working directly with my employer and our clients to marketing to taking inventory and stocking shelves. I’m experienced in using social media sites, Wordpress, Buffer, Canva, and Mailchimp. I designed newsletters, promotionals, and flyers. I’ve worked with companies to provide book reviews and I’m an Amazon Vine Reviewer. I also have worked in transcription. If you think I’d be a good fit for your job position, I’d love to hear from you!
