    I specialize in developing custom sensor solutions for a variety of applications. Most of my work has been in mobile robotics (ground vehicles and drones) and medical devices, but the skills apply to wide range of other problems. This work has involved selecting the appropriate suite of sensors, designing a system to acquire and process the data, and often integration of control hardware or software. My education (BS, MS, and PhD) in Mechanical Engineering was largely focused on mechatronics. This is where I got my start with solving complex sensor problems including a control system for an automotive hydrogen fuel cell, instrumentation for testing autonomous robots, development of several novel drone applications, and research into a variety of camera types (stereo, multi-spectral, high speed computer vision) for robotics perception. The company I run has done a variety of product development work in house. Our two primary project have been a wearable Bluetooth triaxial accelerometer to assess neonate motion (tremor detection) and a non-contact respiration monitor based in infrared cameras. We’ve also supported several other startups with development of prototypes (mostly in the medical sensor/device area). To implement these systems, I’ve become proficient at PCB design (mostly in EAGLE), PCB assembly, embedded microcontroller programming (mostly in C/C++, but some Python and Java as well), data acquisition systems, computer vision (mostly OpenCV).
